Whilst to most people these are not the prettiest of daggers they do have some appeal to some of us. The variety and variations are certainly not endless as it seems with hunting and forestry hirschfängers but there is more than one type.
The first is a standard Eickhorn.

This next one is a standard Eickhorn with the addition of an Ivory grip.

These next two are the rarely seen stag grip early 3rd reich versions. A full length piece and a 3/4 length piece.

The last piece is one where for the sake of extreme rarity I have forgone some condition, it's not something I often do but in this case I thought it worth it. This piece has every fitting fully engraved.
Hope you have enjoyed this look at a few of the variations that can be found on these underrated daggers.

Gary,
Thanks for taking the time to post these lovely shooters from your collection, we don't often get to see these rare variants and this is a special treat. The Eickhorn with the solid ivory grip and the Puma with the etched presentation blade are my personal favorites, both are exceptional !
I hope your efforts will encourage others to share some of their shooting Hirschfänger examples with us too, especially anything unusual or out of the ordinary.
Best regards!
Bill

Simply amazing!
I love those Eickhorns (imagine that).
The only ones that I have seen over the past little while all have cracked grips.

I should add that both the stag grip pieces are also Eickhorn, they were the only company that made these in this form. More for you to find.

Gee, thanks, Gary.
I'm still looking for my first Eickhorn.
I note that the two different TMs come with two different etches on the stag gripped ones.

Hi John
Really it is the same etch pattern, the only difference being a short section of floral pattern at the riccasso below the crossed cannons on the longer piece. On the long pieces I have only ever seen the early double oval mark, I have yet to see another 3/4 length piece.

Hi Paul
As far as I am concerned the all green knot with the round ball shape is the only one that is correct for these daggers. The frogs(koppelschuh) are very difficult to find, they are quite distinctive in that they are very narrow and have a single rivet to the rear. I have a number which I have found over the years and I know that Wotan shows at least one original example in a previous thread.

As always a great show by Gary. While not a fan of shooting daggers this can change your mind.I never knew they came with a stag grip live and learn.

G,
You often have the abolity to take a dagger type that I generally don't find appealing & turn it into something of beauty. A beautiful niche in your collection, well done sir. Thanks for sharing.

My contribution: Early production heavily silvered Klaas with uncracked grip, correct period frog and knot.

WOW Paul, where did you get that beauty??
You don't see many by Klaas at all, the frog is exceptionally rare, most do not have these accoutrements at all. These seem to have become very popular lately and finding one without a cracked grip is very rare nowadays.

I'll bet that Lakesidetrader is drooling right now at this fantastic Klaas piece.
Really, really nice stuff we are seeing in this thread.

Seen from a US Veteran, but unable to buy, was a Clemen & Jung Shooting Assn.. The amazing thing about this one was that it was about 3/4ths size of the Eickhorn and others. Tried hard and offered book price, but the vet wouldn't sell. Anyone else seen one of these by Clemen & Jung before??

Hi Ron
If your talking about the type with the celluoid grip then I've never seen a 3/4 length piece before. I'd sure love to see one.
Cheers

Dave
a very nice example of a shooting association dagger, the frog looks great, I've seen all sorts of hangers on these and have some strange looking frogs myself.
Thanks for posting.
