Hi John! I like yours very much, it has a low number. I think that can be very interesting if there's a chance to track the inventory number, may it determine the year of issue? it was a ministery level assignment? Anyone knows?

Nacho:

There may be some controversy over this low number. In the book, Seitengewehr, by George Wheeler, it states that there are two manufacturers of DRP KS98s, Alcoso and Weyersberg. Alcoso used larger sized serial numbers and only up to 999. Wheeler states that Weyersberg used smaller numbers starting at 1,000.

I saw an Alcoso DRP KS98 for sale last year on Tom Johnson's site and it did have the large and a 3-digit number as pictured on page 185 of the Wheeler book.

Controversy aside, I think that mine is fine.

BTW, when you can find these, they go for anywhere from $400 to $1,000 depending on who is selling and what they think they can hose us for (I mean what they think they can get for it).

Here is an older photo of mine.Bret Van Sant

BTW maybe George will up date that book with some new info one day. I looked for years to find a really nice example. And to date I never forund one with a knot. then weeks after i snagged this one Johnson listed one with a knot for maybe like 1200 or 1300$ I have never forund a nice combat type yet. Only was lucky to snag the chained Post with a knot. Tuff to find the knot for all of these. I would rather see a Post volume from one of the big guys rather than an SA book!!

Great pieces gents. I'f I'm not mistaken I think George has stated on GD & WAF that he's seen examples post-Seitengewehr that don't fit into the number scheme put forth in the tome. Anything's possible & I guess we can never say never.

Here is my K98 combat bayo with postal markings.

Sorry for the poor shots, but, until the new year, it is the best I have.
