Just received this SA today and it has an unusual two tone color grip. On one side, the grip seems to be blonde but on the other side, the grip is dark brown. Never seen this before ? Don't know what to make of it but I still think it's cool.

Pat, where did you find that one? I'm a HACO collector and that one is a real beauty. It may have had the varnish rubbed down on the front? The back looks like all the HACO's I have. Very nice blade! Do you know the number? Mark

Pat: What you apparentely have here is older wood on the dark side of your grip and sap wood on the other side. I have seen this quite often making furniture over the years. jim

Possibly also exposure to strong sunlight over a period of time suggested by the ring round the grip just below the top crossguard which is darker where it has been protected by the little strap of a triple hanger IMO The sap wood and old wood theory is also valid

You continue to amaze me. How do you find these mint conditioned out of a time warp daggers?

Thank you all, much appreciated. This is my first Haco and I can certainly understand the reasons as to why Mark wants to monopolise the market on these. They are really beautiful and this one is no exception. The blade is simply stunning and the motto is really dark. I was just very lucky to get this dagger, it was being offered on WAF e.stand. Just happened to be the first caller and it arrived directly from Germany. Mark is probably right, the varnish may have been cleaned, I don't know, but it still looks great.

Pat, I concur with Jim. Cut of the wood. Actually neat looking I think. A screamer piece! Congrats! -serge-

Dr Jeckle and Mr. Hyde grip...cool. Looks like the lacquer is still present, so either a variation in the wood...which may be visible with the grip disassembled looking from the top and bottom, or a variation in stain or light exposure would be my guess. Nice find Pat, John
