Not too sure of the blackening on the motto due to the condition of the blade and the one photo. I could be wrong but better photos of the blade would help, if you can get them.

Better pictures from the grip and his inlays also needed.

From the pictures, the scabbard looks painted which is not correct. Also I cannot fully see the screws on the lower scabbard fitting but they may be the later dome head type use on RZM scabbards.
The dagger itself looks real.

The darkening of the etching can be deceptive in photos. A great deal depends on the lighting and angle. Usually, original darkening ranges from a charcoal gray to a lighter gray. Some daggers had no darkening in the etching, although most earlier examples do. Years of cleaning or being coated in oil or grease can remove much of the darkening. In some cases, it can cause it to become even darker. The latest photos, above, show a much lighter, grayish background than the earlier photos. From what can be seen, the blade has nice graining. The scabbard, as noted, has been painted. It is missing the suspension ring and the lower fitting shows some splitting. Originally, it would have been blued. There does not appear to be a district mark (Roman numeral) on the lower guard. Highly unusual, but not unheard of. The grip looks like it may have been painted or refinished in some way. It could be that it was coated with linseed oil or another preservative.

Grumpy there is a roman number I on the backside of the lower crossguard, you see it better on the first pictures. dagger looks ok to me, the motto should be looked a little closer because of the darkening. hammesfahr is most seen with light grey i think.
the scabbard is, of course, poorly repainted. no good work and not old. definitely not in time before 1945!!!
greetings rieny
