The hat looks ok to me.

Obviously the sweatband is missing. the visor may have been replaced, those stitches look a bit loose to me. I can't speak to the originality of the insignia, but chances are they were possibly replaced at some point as well. (many of the black SS caps were re purposed during the war for the Germanic SS people) If it is cheap enough, it maybe a worthy restoration project.

No expert here on these. The old "hands-on" examination also applies. Based on the photos, I think it's original. I agree with Mr. Jerry's observations, except I think there's a good chance the insignia are real.

Hi insignia are both good and hat is 100% fine and of the period...I see that it is missing the forehead section of the sweatband...unfortunately this happens to these and political visors by those hunting for tags....cheers and regards, Ryan

Just a question from past observations of SS hats,, the band where the skull is , I have seen examples where this area is made with "Felt" this looks to be made with the same material as of the rest of the hat. I am no expert either but at least an old fashion black light test on the white piping might help. Larry
