Hi guys I think that these two bayonets are among the first edged weapons of Epack company. Or am I wrong?

Are they dated? According to Fisher's Reference, Pack was established in 1909.

These are New Model S89/05nA bayonets. The old model ones with "ears" would be earlier.

Thanks Cito was a Pack trademark. It appears that they made both plain and sawback old model S98/05aA in 1915 and new model S98/05nA in 1916. These were marked with the Cito stamp. Since your Pack-Ohliger marked nA is dated 1917 I presume they started using the Pack name then. What is the date on your Cito marked bayonet?

Are there any inspection marks on the guard, pommel, or screwbolts of this bayonet? I have seen some S98/05 without dates or stamps that I presume were commercial products. This may be what you have in this Cito marked bayonet.

Well, it seems it was an item of issue at some point in time since it is not condemned. I would guess it was made in 1915-16 but perhaps the spine markings were removed and the "S" or "8" added at some point. It could even be the remains of a poorly stamped and partially ground "18" I suppose. According to Carter the Cito mark was used in 1915 & 1916 while the Pack-Ohliger & Co. mark was used in 1916 & 1917 on nA bayonets only. There is still a lot that is unknown about these S98/05 bayonets and their wartime modifications.
You have two nice ones though.

It's been a while since I've seen any 98/05 bayos with the Cito and Cito-Coln commercial markings of EP&S,but I'm sure that these examples had no other markings on them.It seems strange to have produced such pieces during wartime, but I guess that this will always remain something of a mystery.
Every reference I've seen regarding Pack Ohliger & Co suggests that they were retailers or at best assemblers of ready made parts. There doesn't seem to have been any connection with EP&S itself, other than some family link perhaps.

Yes,I'm afraid I'll have to tuck the tail well between the legs on this one. Just to rub salt into my self inflicted wound I've just been gazing at images of a beautiful Imperial Kraftfahr Korps dagger that has Pack's blacksmith logo with P.O&Co underneath. Pictures definitely speak louder than words!!!
Regards Chris.

I believe that Pack-Ohliger & Co were a separate company from E-Pack & Sohne until around 1923 when E Pack took over the company.
