Whatever your doing Degens you are doing it right!!! Outstanding photos!! I know Nakida can shoot some excellent photos,, but yours are equally excellent if not better. Great use of light and close ups,, you can almost touch it!! The Macro mode makes all the difference. Best Larry

Larry,
I can take no credit really, I realised many years ago the trick to getting good pictures was to stretch the budget a little further than normal and buy a camera that does all the work for you.
Most camera's only shine when they are given loads of natural light. My trusty Fuji S7000 died on a recent cross-country haul of the US, this new camera appears to be a fitting replacement, even with the filesize reduction for the forum.

Thanks for the compliments smile

I picked up a great little camera called the Nikon L110 it is 12 mgp and gives me good results. What camera are you using now?? I am also impressed with the file reduction results on the forum when I have to minimize percentage and ratio. They turn out pretty good. before the GDC changed its format I was using a video camera for my still shots which were ok,,but not the greatest if you happen to remember any of them in the past. I am more an SA guy than anything else. So the camera i have now i am happy with for the time being but i would like to up grade to the Nikon D90,, maybe tax return time next year,, this one suits me fine and does all the work for you too. Looking forward to some of your posts with new pics smile Larry

Degens,
Your pictures are terrific! They give new meaning to the phrase "picture-perfect"! What camera model are you using?

Thank you guys.
Denny/Dave, the new camera is a Panasonic FZ-100 ( Panasonic ). Before everybody sells a dagger to buy one, I must point out that after having the camera for a number of weeks and giving it a good run, I would not recommend it as top of the range for picture quality.
There are far better options for the money regarding overall picture quality, however if its a general all purpose camera you are looking for this one has full 1080p HD video, 5 shot burst capture in raw format and a host of other impressive stats including a x24 optical zoom.
This camera requires LOTS of light, anything less than a bright sunny day results in excess picture noise that is very annoying and coupled with the UK climate......enough said.

I always shoot in RAW, use a tripod, manual focus and of course macro mode for taking pictures of objects. Use indirect natural light, close to a large window is normally good enough and set your max iso on your camera, if possible to 100.

There are plenty of people on this forum who take top notch pictures and I suspect most of them use similar techniques.

Resize in photoshop if you have it and use the "save for web" feature with a max filesize of 120k, it ensures the best quality compression for the forum.

I hope that helps a little.

The Macro mode and the (right lighting) makes all the difference in the world. Photo shop as you say works well to fill in the rest of the details. Its always nice to hear about technique methods and seeing quality clear photos. Best Larry

My beloved Sony Mavica ( yes the kind with the 3.25 floppy drive)is finally on its last legs.
but it had a great macro lens, and held up for the thousands of photos and years of abuse I gave it.

I had picked up a Nikon coolpix, but the buttons are too small for my man hands.

So I am very interested to hear about other cameras. Thanks for sharing!
