Hey JR I like the closely matched step on the upper and lower crossguards. very nicely matched and a tight fit. I like the craftmanship on the Kober daggers more so than the other Suhl based daggers,, IMO personal preference!! Very Nice overall Happy New Year Larry

One additional shot of the Kober that I had, as these Suhl daggers are such a popular SA.

Although most of the normally seen Suhl makers are common on the rarity list, it seems that our European collectors were first on the band wagon to forward these daggers to the top of the popularity list. Something that I must admit that I never realized until they started collecting and posting these beauties.

The Suhl daggers are all in a class by itself. Great craftmanship. Nice collection "Schwarz" I never seen a collection of that many Suhls in one place.

Very nice collection LH 600 :)) well done!
JR my dear friend I guess u r right smile - It seems that we European collectors always had a special love for those Oak handle, tight fit, low step Suhl babies wink rarity may be pretty low on the scale but its desirability is at the very top for sure smile

Nakida, Those are beautiful pieces, and great pictures! How did you come across them? Any history? I bought mine from the daughter of the US WW2 Vet who was clearing her fathers estate in Florida USA. Do you like the craftsmanship of the Suhl gunmakers also? Kevin.

I do love the JP and Haenel as well, everything made in Suhl is mostly great stuff...here is a picture of a JP I use to own...take care buddy smile

Nakida, I would love to have a J.P.Sauer too,VERY nice example you had. I see you must trade or sell to get different items sometimes as I do! In reference to my Suhl gunmakers question, I was asking if you like early Suhl made guns like the one I show above, I feel they are true pieces of art with craftsmanship far surpassing anything in the dagger offerings, maybe only matched by some of the very ornate Hirschfangers. Kober was also a gunmaker, specializing in barrels! Kevin.

All of the Gentlemen that have posted their Suhl dagger collections and individual ones included are outstanding in every respect. To this day I can not answer the question on why the lower step was chosen. I skimmed through Ralfs SA book and saw excellent examples but none with a reason why these 3 producers chose to differ themselves from the rest of the makers. What was the thought behind it and I field this question to you Suhl collectors that pride themselves on such a beautiful and unique grip to crossguard SA example. I myself am determined to acquire one of these beauties very soon from a close associate. No SA collection should be without one. Crossguard shapes range from Curved to thin and that "Straight across look". But the Suhl Guards are in a class by itself. Patiently we still await the release of Tom Wittmanns SA book and hopefully the Suhl question that I asked on the reason why it was used may be revealed. IMO the Kober is the Suhl of Suhl daggers when it comes to a low step. TW once said to me that The Suhl area itself is one of those old coal mining provinces that is cold and plain looking. Just a thought. Like to hear some feed back!! Best Larry
