i just recently pick this helmet up. it appears to be a double decal heer hkp size 62. it was painted black when i got it and fortunatly the paint was able to be removed with laquer thinner. the decals were not painted over. heres my question,i have no problem with the bird. looks fine to me. has nice metalic tone and appears to be a re issue helmet with rough texture paint ove some of the bottom edge of the decal. the helmet has awsome toning all over. but,the shield if it is good was applied over the reissue paint job. so both decals were not put on at the same time. i was always lead to believe that m-42's didnt hardly ever get shield decals? maybe it was owner applied during the war? if its not i should be able to remove it with thinner. let me know what you guys think please. thanks mark

To my knowledge M-42 helmets were never issued with Tri colour decals. In my opinion the appearance of the Tri shield is incorrect and appears to be a reproduction decal. I have suspicions of your adler decal as well but I will leave the commentary to those much better versed in helmets and decals than I. Regards, Ryan

thanks ryan, i figured the shield was bad,but you never know as i have seen some strange things over the years.as for the bird,i went through many many pics of good examples and it seems to match?also the repaint is covering the edge.it actualy looks like there may be another decal under it. i will try to take really close pics of it outside in the sunlight.if you think the bird is no good help me out so i can see the difference if i am missing something. thanks again. mark
