Is this dagger from an antiques dealer in Arundel (UK). It looks exactly like the one I saw on his stall at the last Farnham Maltings show.

How much were you soaked for this one ? No hidden motives, just curious HN

Hi All: Congrats on determining that this was presented to Ludwig Elssser, SS No. 4212. I researched his ground-Rhm Herder (which his records indicate he received) for another collector a couple of years ago. This is the first time I have seen two SS daggers that belonged to the person. Attached are some pics. Enjoy! Ross Kelbaugh www.ssdaggers.com

When I saw this dagger at the Farnham Maltings show it was going for 6000 & at the end of the show the dealer told me he had offers of 5000 for it. So I guess the dagger went for 5500 or more as he does not sell bargains. But the photo & research does add value to the dagger. If the SA dagger was added to it,that would make the pair unique.

Your guess was not far out shape. Paid 5700 for this great nickle silver dagger. Being a low SS number makes it a + and added research a ++. I can only agree with you and getting both of this SS mans daggers together with be a ++++++

"Can only go up in value" But thanks for the offer. [/quote] I do love these early 1936's,that is why I bought one & loved finding out it's history as well as getting a photo of it's owner, even though he turned out be a war criminal. But at 5700 you will have to wait long after the recession before these daggers with proven history reach that value.

No doubt there will be SS dagger collectors here that have been collecting SS daggers alot longer than i have and know the current prices of what a certain piece SHOULD be worth. So it stands to reason that these collectors also know how fast these dagger and riseing in value, Especially chained daggers with early nickle silver ones becoming harder to find in nice condition. This dagger is a nice nickle silver piece and IMO the inscription will add to the value plus i have the SS (4212 ) mans SSOA file ....All makes a very nice dagger IMO. I have used the term " VALUE " here afew times but i did not buy this dagger just to sale it on to make a few bucks. I have seen SS chained dagger for sale before and would think you guys probably seen alot more than me if you been collectors for longer. Most of the ones i seen have been for sale on internet which you can only view via photos, I have only seen a limited few (for real) which is always better than just photos. My dagger is the best i seen (for real) in my short collecting career. The scabbard paint in wonderfull still retaining its original shine and with no finger print marks and the blade is best one i seen ( for real ) with no rust marks deep scratches or acid marks from past fingers, All the bits that should be magnetic our and all the bits that should'nt be arnt. There are no doubt better daggers around and if you have one and payed less than i did then count your self lucky because you will not lose out on your investment and neither will i. Im happy with this dagger, Happy that i was able to trace the SS owner, Happy with my 5700 outlay. This dagger is for keeps. Thanks for looking Rob

A dagger in this condition whith the added enhancement of being tracible to the original owner is ,to me, in a class by itself. Congradulations on a very nice purchase. Jim
