Hi guys,

I got had some "unwanted visitors" in my house yesterday evening/night mad (in Brussels/Belgium). On top of a load of other stuff, they also took my EM 33 SS Dagger by Klaas with the name Mildenberger engraved in the hilt. I was hoping you guys could keep your eyes open for this one. I had it researched by Ross and had received an extensive file on the dagger. (discussed in http://phpstack-500133-1583587.cloudwaysapps.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=15457&page=1)

I'll upload the some pictures below, not the best but theys stole the power cable of my external hard drive with my backup pictures. I'll upload the others asap.
Just so you'd know, the dagger might be offered in bulk with a Heer Alcoso dagger, DKiG and Knights Cross mad mad

If anyone would have some suggestions for other forums I could post this on (don't know whether there are any good french ones),please let me know.
Thanks!!
Steven

Seems like I'm having trouble uploading pictures in this new system, it's asking me for an URL... Maybe it's my lack of sleep that's troubling me but could anyone tell me how to do this or add the pictures from my original post to this topic?
thanks!
Steven

Here are Steven's SS dagger pictures from his previous post. Sorry to hear of your loss, that has to be the worse feeling I couldn't imagine. I'll pray that the police find the person or people that broke into your house so you might get your stuff back..

Yes, very sorry to hear of your loss. Were you insured, I hope?

Hi Hazheel sorry to hear about your loss. I dont believe they were crooks,, but more they are cowards. The kind of people that do things in the dark,, or a closet for that matter.
If you want to bring pics from your original post to here just cut and paste the web address here in the reply box.
Your SS is unique in its own way so hopefully it should surface somewhere,, because of its personalized characteristics. I wish you the best in its return. Sincere regards Larry

Suggest you email Johnson, Wittman and other well-known dealers regarding the problem. The SS dagger should be spotted immediately, if offered. UK dealers may be the logical place for these thieves to go with the daggers.

Nothing worse than a thief !!!! And if you caught him in the act, the judicial system would probably prosecute you for the violence you would do to him !!!!

Thank you all for your sympathy! And yes, the items were insured but still... Especially the SS dagger was dear to me as it was my first SS item and I spent hours/days searching for more information on the owner.

By the way, it goes without saying there will be a decent reward for the person that helps me get my dagger back.
Thanks
Steven

I'm glad to hear that you had insurance, but money won't replace such a fine dagger.

Sorry to hear about your loss. -
Keep an eye also on those trash militaria auctions like Allegro and Militaria 3-2-1.
As mentioned, good idea to contact the big dealer and in England almost any Boot dealer.

About 3 years ago I had two SS items I paid for and they were stolen in 'transit'. I put the word out and JR had been offered the SS Honor degen I believe, through another dealer who had not yet paid for it, JR called me, then the seller, and finally the items were returned. There was a thread here about it at the time.
The reason I bring this up is actually the thief worked for a wrap and ship co. The seller brings in a SS Honor Degen and a chained SS dagger and tells the pimply kid to "wrap em up and send it". Yes....it was the Pimply 'Kinko Kid' who was the thief. He was later arrested and fired from his job. But good collectors band together when something like this happens. It was because of those good people in the hobby JR and Christine of 'Das Reich Relics' (think that name is wrong), who took an interest in helping with a hobby crime and were instrumental in resolving this theft.
The point I'm trying to make while telling a story is a real thief when they see an object of their desire can't get it out of their heads till they steal it. Look around who had seen your collection. Maybe it wasn't them but perhaps their son told some school mate about 'all these authentic nazi items in this house'.
Anyway, I would first start there - who seen it. get any fingerprints?

Hope you find the bast--rd and your items are returned whole.

Back in the old days- the stuff used to be hanging in dens on walls. Nobody kept the items in safes -at least that I knew.

Hazheel Sorry, I just read your post and I find reprehensible the fact into your house and take one of your most prized possessions, my utter contempt for such activities, I hope everyone has been resolved in the best possible way or at least recover your precious Dagger least a greeting partner.

This unfortunate incident is one of the reasons I don't post my complete name on any forum or publicize the fact that I collect militaria. We have NO idea who is actually watching the forum and looking for an opportunity for larceny or worse. I have also cautioned others NOT to disclose their travel plans in advance publicly either as it's an invitation for a break in.
What happened to Mike Pinkus and others in the past should serve as a warning that caution is in order when publicly discussing your collection.
I know those of you who are dealers can't avoid this but hopefully you've taken other prudent precautions.

Thanks again guys!

Didn't find my stuff (yet) but at least I got a correct deal with the insurance company. Not that I think he needs the publicity, but the fact that I mentioned one of the daggers was bought from Thomas Wittman really helped to build up the case. I was a bit worried at first as the first insurance expert didn't want give me an estimate and forwarded me to another one. The second one was a bit hesitant at first as it can be difficult to judge on the authenticity/value of some items based on pictures alone; but when I mentioned I had bought the dagger from Wittman and showed the invoice, the "mood" of the conversation changed quite significantly. I even got reimbursed for the added value of the dagger due to the documentation portfolio I had bought from Ross K. (Wittman had been so kind to send me an email with a new estimate including the docs). Now I'm waiting for the money to come through to fill up the empty shelves ;-)
