That is a nice Holler. Has all the features of one. The personalization is a great addition.
Congrats on having a nice dagger...and one that wasn't 'cleaned'.

It should be Weihnachten and not Weihachten...

The whole inscribtion to me is at least spurious. It reads "GEWIDMET VON NACHRICHTENBAUR UPP / WEIHACHTEN 18(???)41" NACHRICHTENBAUR UPP I think schould be NACHRICHTENBAUTRUPP (I am not in units and do not know if there was such a unit but translated it is something like "signal corps gang") and is missing a letter as WEIHACHTEN. ONE word wrong I could perhaps imagine but two??? It looks like 1841 (which certaily would be wrong) but could be 1941, I cannot determine in this photograph. Sorry, even if the inscription is contemporary I highly doubt that a concrete man could be fixed simply by the initials. Even if we think that W is the forename and F the familyname (which is not prooved in any way). Regards,

to me that engraving sounds period for sure, considering the characters' style. i don't know the german language but google translator recognize the word ' Weihachten ' (without 'n') as 'from Christmas' while the word weihnachten (with 'n') as 'Christmas' only... zooming on the data i see it is 1941 and not 1841 (the 8 is opened so i presume it has to be intended as 9). don't know why W F only and not an extended name + surname but i like the whole engraving. to me its a nice dag. congrats

joelabrendola, I too like the dagger itself and the stile (and patination) of the inscription doen NOT look like yesterday done. Nevertheless, against the google translation (which in this certain case is totally crap), such words as "WEIHACHTEN" and "NACHRICHTENBAUR UPP" did/do NOT EXIST in the german language, also in no grammatically connex. I hate to say but for me this certain inscription is an old faked one typically done by a well skilled but non german speaking person. I wonder what you would say concerning periodness if a dedication on an eg US sabre would say eg "Dedicated from Sigal Corps Gang, chritmas 1941". Regards,
