Here is some info I found. PVT. Mike K Sokol, ASN:35022853, DOB.1913 Russia Resident of Cuyahoga County,Ohio. Entered service in Cleveland,May 27th 1941. Mike Sokol was assigned to B,Battery,1st Battalion,200th Coast Artillary. 1st Battalion left San Francisco Aug 30th,1941 on the SS President Pierce arriving in the Philippines on Sept 17,1941. The SS Pierce suffered through a typoon on the way. When Bataan was surrendered on April 9th 1942 PVT. Sokol was sent to Camp O Donnell with a hundred other men of the 200th/515th Several were executed upon arrival follwing a "Shake Down" where they were found to have items of japanese origin. Items as minor as a mirror marked "Made in Japan".

PVT. Mike Sokol will die at Camp O Donnell on May 10, 1942. 31 days after arriving. The New Mexico Brigade was the last unit left standing to face the enemy and the last to lay down there arms.
This info and much more to include daily battles leading up to the surrender. Was provided by the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial Foundation of New Mexico.

Randal, that is one killer grouping. Bataan Purple Hearts are extremely touching and extremely desirable to collectors. Head over to usmilitariaforum.com and make the guys there drool.

I would assume it is rare - any NG medals are rare just because they are limited in numbers. I would go direct to the NM Guard on more info.
