Well: It appears to be too late to be a factory ground Rohm. However I suppose it's possible that it was a left over at the makers and was ground down and made up with plated fittings. But that doesn't explain how it would have gotten out with no RZM marking.

The self destruction of RZM fittings like that makes me sad. No matter what the blade is, the fittings on that dagger are eating themselves alive. In time, it will be much worse looking.

I have heard a rumor that there are a few late SA's which were fitted with unmarked blades. We see this on Heer, Luft, Naval, etc. so I guess it is possible that there were unmarked SA's but I honestly have no idea. I have never seen one.
Has ANYONE else seen a non-maker marked SA (which cannot be attributed to being a ground Rohm)???
Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing Wagner!
Johnny

The blade letters are typical a Thüringer maker as:Malsch , Heller , ... and then must this blade be an early one.Perhaps an other maker has bought the rest blades from a Thüringer maker and has grinded the maker mark. The fit blade shoulder to lower x-guard looks good.Perhaps we can see the tang ?

Didn't smaller companies sometimes buy blades which were finished from larger firms and then just add their logo? If this did happen perhaps this is an example of a blade which was never etched by the finishing company for whatever reason...?

Johnny:
Not only small firms bought blades but larger ones like Eickhorn also did this. Eickhorns father-in-law was a blade forger and they bought blades from him. This can often be detected because there is a forgers stamp on the tang.

With late fittings that are peeling, I doubt very much that this is a Rohm inscription dagger with the back completely ground off.

I suspect that it is a put-together or a late war dagger. Some of those last ones made are pretty strange.

I agree with Thomas. The blade does not have the look of a late blade. Looks to be early quality steel with a deep etch and dark burnishing.

Deutscher: give me a few minutes I'll take it apart and get some tang shots.

In '37 there were also SS EM blades with no M/M or RZM code.We see them every once in awhile so it could have happened on SA also.

Those F B crossguards are injection molded and are of a later vintage than the Rohm daggers.
