I don't know if its an Alteste (do a search on the WAF for it--too long to go into here), but its a definate fake. It even has the infamous "pumpkinhead" fake skull. Chinstrap is probably a real one lifted from a DAF cap.

Don't know what the word means but I did Google it and it means oldest or elder.Maybe they mean an "old fake or repro" JMO

Insignia look like good Assmann examples. Need closer pics to be sure but I think they are OK.

sorry for the time,
the "Alteste" model are first real fake manufactured arround 1955-65 for the movie studio, theater...
the skull is always fake also...
