Welcome back, blueboyukb. The scabbard is from one of the well known fakes of the Gring industrial dagger. It looks like the scabbard mouth has stuck to the blade under the crossguard. Concerning the dagger I can make no statements as the pic is much to bad for any serious thoughts.

thanks wotan, your opinion is much appreciated. i`m also leaning toward the dagger maybe being original, but being paired with a fake/mismatched scabbard. sorry, i don`t have any more pics, this is up at auction near me on friday, and these are the only photo`s they will send. don`t think i`ll be bidding!. steve.

Hi Steve: I'm just a beginner collector. (only three years) Even with better images, I would probably be unaware of problematic details that Mr.wotan (or anyone else with adequate experience) would be able to notice at first glance. But, this much I do know. When I hear "these are the only photos they will send" it tells me that they do not wish for the piece to be viewed by people who know what they are looking at. They're going for the patsy bidders. I'm guessing that they have an "all sales final" policy as well. One would be wise to avoid any such purchase. This is only my opinion, for what it's worth.

hi daggerob.thanks for your reply, to be truthful, the auction house that is selling this dagger is a very reputable outfit, who are having a militaria sale and who normally deal in fine arts, furniture etc. i suspect that they are just not well informed on the dagger, and to be fair they are the only pics they sent, but they didn`t say that more could not be had if i wanted them.i doubt if they are trying to pull a fast one, but, i appreciate your advice. regards, steve.

Hi Steve: That's understandable. Fine arts and furniture are far removed from war relics. I like to watch "Antiques Roadshow", and it's amazing how much there is to know about that field also.
