I never understood the "Price on Request" method of salesmanship.
All it conveys to me (and to many others I have spoken to) is a statement akin to this:
"I am ashamed how much I am asking for this, so I prefer to tell you in private rather than publically so that I may avoid ridicule."
Of course any price can be negotiated between a seller and a potential buyer from other prying eyes, but there is no way around the fact that by stating "Price Available on Request" you are shouting from the roof tops that it is exorbitant.

John, You can buy this dagger for less from almost any other dealer. Just look at some of his "posted" prices. If you go ask on his P.O.Rs, you better be sitting down in a padded armchair with the safety belt firmly attached! -wagner-

I like it when a dealer states"I've not taken it apart,if the new owner does so guarantee is void" Who examined it Superman with x-ray vision.

Thank you, everyone. Yes, I was sitting down when I found out how much. Mind you, diplomatic daggers that I have seen on other web sites go for $10k+. The price on this is not that far out of line from those if it is real and in semi-mint condition.
I guess I will wait for the SOS and see these kinds of daggers in my own hands (how's that for mixing metaphors?)

Yes John that's true. However the grading on GOs and Diplos are subject to opinion. For one this dealer claims it's near mint. How near? It's looks like a "cleaned up" piece to me. I would not rate it, near mint. Secondly, how would you know if a seller will not allow you to break it down for inspection, weather it has all matching numbers or a mismatch? The difference would be thousands of dollars. Now, I also understand that a seller doesn't want some inexperianced shmoe to try to remove the tang nut on one of these. More damage have been done to these daggers over the years due to this. But if you can't have the right to send it to Tom Wittmann, so his guy can do it, then I would pass on dealing with a seller that has all the "rules" going their way. I agree, you will find a better Diplomat at the SOS for less money with cash in hand. Just my opinion. -wagner-

Then again, Some of us have these daggers and don't care for them Let alone trying to find someone who will pay a good price to buy it.Not everyone needs BIG dealers pricing.

I picked up a couple of really nice pieces at the MAX, a chained NSKK and a nicely patinaed RAD Leader for reasonable (but still high) prices. I guess that I will be wandering the aisles at the SOS looking for a GO or a Diplo and asking for everyone's opinion.
I hope that I can get the kind of advice and help that this forum has provided me so far but in person at the SOS.
And, yes, Bob, I would love to see some pictures of the dagger(s) that you don't care for so much.

Another English dealer is also selling a diplo which he describes as near mint and probably the best example available in euroland, no pics are posted yet, but he wants £4500 appx $9000. www.regimentals.co.ukNolan
