This is 2 halfs of a steel ball with fins and clips holding it together,looks like it held some kind of fragments.Anyone know what it is?

Where was it found ?

All kinds of stuff was thrown out of bombers by crews.

Looks like a bomblet out of a CBU canister (cluster bomb). The fins are to stablize it in flight and keep the group of them togeather for better target coverage. I can't rember how many of them were in the container but there was a bunch. Makes quite a mess. The light blue paint indicates an inert (training) munition.

Thanks guys,Dave this stuff was in a vets duffle bag I bought with ,suspenders and various pouches,web belt, canteen, and a sweet Sears 1942 1911a1 holster.

The first gun show I ever went to, there was a guy selling these little frag items. I remember him telling me that they were armed in flight, and after detonation, they made one hell of a mess, thats why there are so many "BBS" within them. this is funny, the same small gun show is coming up next month, and I was just thinking about these little frags last week and then I see this thread. I have never heard about them before, but still, a neat little deadly item.
