What do you guys think about the various helmet sizes? Do shell size 62s look disproportionately small? Are small helmets undesireable to collect? Hard to sell?

Hi Gunther. For sure not that one!! It's a beaut. Some say the smaller ones make for a nicer display, I used to think I had to obtain sizes that fit my fat head for some reason. But Why? you cant' wear them and you should never let anyone place them on there heads either. I don't think the smaller sizes make any difference in value or desirebuility. Just my opinion till someone brings up better ones. Smile

My opinion is that the smallest size (60shells) and the biggest size (70 shells), are much harder to obtain because of less production.

Of course, when you are planning to put these big/small helmets on a mannequin/displayhead, you might have a problem but on a shelf it doesn't matter at all in my opinion.

Imagine: DD's rising from size 60 to 70 on a shelf .Cool

By the way: very desirable helmet you've got there, mister.

Thijs

If I had my choice it would be a size 68 but I would not turn a helmet down because of size of shell.

62's are actually quite great looking to me.
I prefer the 64 but would never pass over a helmet due to size.

I don't know if you guys have noticed this, but, regardless of size, all helmets (M35-M40-M42) are the same height. So, the smaller ones have a much deeper look to them than the 68's and 70's.

Great thread.
I collect Camos so I would never pass on a helmet because of size, but if I had my choice I like 64.
I do know collectors that will not buy a helmt if it does not fit their size preference.

I used to be that way. Then I realized I was sometimes passing up good deals for no reason.

I would never turn down a nice helmet because of size. In a perfect world ?? Size 66 with 64 a close second.

Do you have favorite shell makers ? I don't care for the lines of a NS on a parade helmet, but it's growing on me. But again it would never prevent me from having one, I've had a few.

I am not concerned about size at all. Small shells are nicer cuz people are not tempted to put them on their heads (what's up with that habit anyway?). Personally, I think the 64 shell is most pleasing, but I would never pass on a nice helmet because of its size.

I think that from an esthetic point of view size 64 & 66 look best to me. That said, I would personally never turn down a good deal on an original regardless of the size. After all, we aren't buying these things to wear....or are we?

After seeing the size preferences here I ran to check my only helemet (an SS SD M42) and its a size 64. So I'll pick size 64 as the most pleasing to me!!
