I think I have a Bavarian long service award but I am not sure what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The silver colored scroll under the gold colored Bavaria shield has the initials S M V B.
On the back is the company name Glaser & Sons ? Dresden.

Definitely Saxon, not Bavarian. I think a war veterans badge.

Steve,

Yes, the green and white ribbon motif is definitely Saxon. As Barry mentioned, this cross is no doubt from a veterans club or Kriegerverein. The central golden emblem is the Saxon crest. If you look at a Saxon spiked-helmet you'll see the crest in much better detail.

Your medal belonged to a gentleman who faithfully served his club for forty years and who'd have proudly worn this nice decoration on special dress occasions.

Nice!

Bill
