Found this on eBay. Note the HJ pin and whistle cord, as well as the vent holes in the cap.

I doubt the diamond-shaped pin is a HJ pin, unless this guy was a Youth Leader. The Alte Kampfer chevron indicates he was already an adult during the Kampfzeit and too old during all of the Third Reich to ever be a Fascist boy scout. Also the ribbons on his ribbon bar are mostly or all of WWI vintage. Still a nice photo-I like his cap.

My guess is that he was a youth leader or administrator. The whistle cord would help to indicate this. I don't know how many times over the years I have seen SS caps "dissed" because they had vent holes. That's what's so great about period photos. Many myths can be laid to rest from them. I first thought he was SD, but I suspect the runes were blocked out to make eBay happy.

Yes, the runes have been 'blackened' over.. The pin is not Hitler Youth.. I cannot remember what the pin is now, but it had a large gold border, and the design is a sort of 'X' over a white enamel field..in between the arms of the 'X' are four letters, signifying the organization.Look at the badge and you can see the x clearly.. Another from the 'Ukrainian' archives? Those pics would be worth a lot if they were originals.

Well, it beats me, but I don't know much about badges. I thought it was likely a gold-bordered youth pin. I do know that's a whistle cord, indicating some sort of training role, probably dealing with youth, but it could be almost for any organization. It appears to be black, but I suppose it could be any dark color. Maybe he was a female youth officer(?). The cap, though, is the main focus, since it clearly shows the vent holes.

It's the Turkish War Medal of 1915, sometimes known as the Gallipoli Star.

The Ottoman War Medal (Turkish : Harp Madalyasi), better known as the Gallipoli Star, or the Iron Crescent (from German Eiserner Halbmond, in allusion to the Iron Cross ) was a military decoration of the Ottoman Empire which was instituted by the Sultan Mehmed Reshad V on 1 March 1915 for gallantry in battle. This decoration was awarded for the duration of World War I to Ottoman and other Central Powers troops, primarily in Ottoman areas of engagement
