This Diplomatic Dagger i bought some months ago, only to learn on this forum that it was a fake. I did not pay an unreasonable amount of money for it and still like it. Here are some pictures for all to learn.

Three quick points: The grips are made from the wrong material. The die mold ejection marks on the back of your crossguard are absent on originals. The Holler logo is bad. Jim

I was told several things by the good folks here,
First, that F.W. Holler was stationed in Solingen, not Berlin. Second, the handle grips should not be made of white plastic. Third, there should be matching numbers inside each handle part, and there aren't any. Possibly even more things, like the casting marks on the backside of the crossguard, but i am not sure, as i am a newbie also.
This dagger is quite well made, with nice silvering on all metal parts and even cross-graining on the blade itself. As a whole it feels quite solid and many friends of mine think it's the real deal.

Holler Berlin. Says it alone.
Watch out for certain daggers with the FW Holler MM. I had a 1st Luft rerpo Holler, but with Solinger, not Berlin. Definitely an earlier repro. The degree markings were terrible as opposed to the real deal.
Consequently, I have yet to come upon a repro saber of any kind with the Holler TM. Doesn't mean that they don't exist though.

That blade H&M is almost certainly a spanish repro blade. Most commonly seen on the second luft examples. They look good at a distance but the hilt fittings are very heavy & the whole piece is unbalanced & tips forward so that it is impossible to hang. I had one once & when I pulled the blade out of the scabbard the brass liners followed & dropped on the floor Oh yes they are really well made

Manthos- allways have caution with any Holler blade that does not have a certain amount of "degree" marks on the thermometer logo. I dont remember the exact amount, but I think it is about the 35-40 mark, could be more!!! ( as far as counting the slashes on the logo itself) also, any Holler marked blade, or any blade for that matter, unless it is a NPEA dagger, that has the word "BERLIN" on it is a reproduction. it has been a bit since I have been here, but I remember, and would ask any other members to correct me. A diplomat and or government officals dagger are by far the most perfect daggers IMO, only next to the SS daggers. no cast marks, no flaws, they are great pieces, and not to mention, my most fav dagger ever. someone correct me if I am wrong? remember, the GO has eagles facing same directions, the pommel vs the cross guard, while the Diplomat has eagles facing opposite directions. HA!~ I remember when Craig brought this up as the best way to tell the difference between the two.
