Hey Guys, Have a look at this pommel and let me know what you think? It looks to be an early type made from brass, but I`m not sure? But what is intrigueging, is the fact that there are 3 styles of oakleaves around the pommel? It is the 14 leaf style. IMO, this kind of workmanship is not up to the standard of the early hand enhanced types, as some of the oakleaves are not even decerned as such? One or two of them have such poor detailing! Dion

One can quite clearly see the 3 types of oakleave patterns here? In fact, the oakleave on the far right has such poor detailing, one can hardly make out it is an oakleave??

Actually--I think what you are seeing here is hand engraving meant to cover the seam. Not great but the magnification makes it look worse than it is. Would you rather see the raw seam?

I don't see anything wrong and if it's brass based it doese'nt get much better than that!

I don't think it's brass. The pommel shows significant plating loss and as ageneral rule, you don't see that with a brass base. Instead, you see plating wearing thin and brass underneath. From the photos, I'd say it's base metal.

Hi Willy, Pommel looks good and like houston mentioned the different leaves are to cover the casting seam and was hand done. Pommels like this one (14 leaves and triangle holes to the side) i have seen on Anton Wingen and Early Eickhorn daggers (My guess is wingen).
The base metal is steel just look at the threads in your posted picture you can clearly make it out, Pictures of the rest of the dagger would help neighbor.
