Hello all, I was wondering if I could get some info from anyone regarding this item. I have had it for at least 25 years but for some reason I have always had a feeling that it was bogus. When I originally bought it it was shiny but over the years it has greyed(?). On the edge it says 925 in an oval and also has next to it what looks like a quarter moon symbol then something that looks like a cross on top of something. I tried to attach a picture but I don't know how visible it is. Anyone seen a symbol before as i describe? On the tail of the glider at one time could be seen a swastica but it is no longer visible. Again any info or ideas as to authenticity etc is appreciated. Duzig(Bill)

In case the lettering is hard to see it is as follows: 6th Segelflug-Wettbewerb NSFK-Gruppe 9 (Weser-Elbe). Actually it looks like it says 6 Jth not 6th perhaps. In any case I welcome any and all replies. Thanks again all Bill

Bill, what you describe is a German silver mark. 925 being the content a quarter moon and a crown with a cross on top.
The non portable award appears and sounds like a zinc base piece. With the graying and degrading of the finish.

Hello Joe thanks for your reply. So I am correct then in my assumption that this is a bogus item correct? I always felt it a little odd that it was marked with a silver content but it didn't really get the patination that silver would take on over the years,as you say more graying as with zinc. Any other comments etc are also welcomed. As usual Joe I thank you for your help and wish you and all a Merry Christmas. Duzig(Bill)

Bill, is it heavy like solid silver ,or on the light side? A moon and then a crown ['Halbmond und Krone'] is indeed the old German silver hallmarks. And, I have seen old German silver marked 925 like that..
A reproduction, cast from the original is all I can conclude..

Hello Gaspare thanks for your comment also. The item is heavy in the hand, it weighs about 6 ounces. I always had my doubts about it for some reason or other although I kind of figured why would someone go thru all the trouble of putting markings on the rim of an item when they probably could have just made it without them. Again I thank you and all for your help & comments. Duzig(Bill)
