Here's a book hand dedicated to SS Brigadefuhrer Alfred Arnold by Himmler. Most books you see have a printed dedication with only a signature. This book was originally purchased from the Arnold family. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Erich,

I'd just like to make a few small comments about your very nice book. I'm surprised that our fellow SS collectors haven't responded in full-force about this rare volume?

Wittekind or Widukind was a Saxon duke who led the Saxons against the Franks in a particularly
vicious war regarding religion during the years 772-785. Most of the stories about Wittekind's life are myth and legend, as little can be documented or verified. The Frankish records state that he led the Saxon resistance
against them and that in the end he gave up the fight and was baptised. Although he actually failed in his ultimate mission, he nevertheless became a regional hero to Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Saxony proper.

Early stories and legends were exactly Himmler's cup-of-tea, as meticuously noted
in his personal "gift-list." He fully immersed himself in these age old stories and legends,
as per Henry the Fowler, and was known to make mountains out of molehills, by those of Hitler's inner-circle.

That said, this was exactly the type of gift that Himmler would give to his best friends..,
or those he needed big favors from ... Big Grin

An outstanding treasure you have there Erich,
it would make for the crowning glory of any military library. Great find and thanks for letting us have a look.

Best!

Bill

Erich, I must join Bill in congratulating you on this very fine book. Rarely do we see a handwritten inscription to a figure like this from Himmler. I certainly would like to have such an example in my hands!

Thank you both for your kind words and yes it's a valuable piece of history. The following two Himmler items go along well with this book. The first is an early original Himmler family photo from 1925 that was taken from Himmler's office at the end of the war. On the reverse in Himmler's mothers hand is written "My Loved ones". The second piece is a hand written early calling card expressing best wishes on the birth of a baby boy from him and his wife. Best, Erich

Erich,

Saving the best for last, eh? Big Grin

Now these two photos fall into the 'ultra-rare' category ... what a grouping! Fantastic in every sense of the word.

Thanks for sharing part of your marvelous collection with us. Ah, one more thing that I was thinking about ... have you considered taking these to a professional photographer and having him make a set of high-quality prints as a back-up, maybe enlarge them just a little?
That way you could file the originals away in some nice cozy, dry, dark place. (just break the originals out for that special occasion?) Smile

Kind regards,

Bill

Erich,

Your dedicated book is a wonderful item, but the family foto and the calling card are just stunning! I have never seen this foto published before and as such is an extremely desireable piece. These are all items that I would love to have in my collection. Kudos!

Regards,

Marcus

Bill, I have had the photo and calling card professionally framed using the best conservative materials. I like your idea on making a copy though.
Marcus, I was lucky to find such historical pieces and they are an important part of my collection. Best, Erich

Erich,

Very, very nice Himmler items! Thanks for sharing.

By the way, how are the photograph and calling card "sandwiched" between the glass without being squished?

They're no longer in that case but custom framed using archival materials. The case is a standard sports card case and does not crush the items.

Very nice book dedication Erich. I don't have one dedicated by him, but one dedicated to him from his collection. I have a nicely bound copy of Daluege's book on Crime in the Reich with Daluege's handwritten obsequious dedication to RFSS Himmler. Himmler read the book and so marked it with date, location and initials in green pencil.

Phil, It was a gift from Himmler on Julfest 1937. It's my understanding that Himmer underlined many passages that he thought were important. I'm glad you received it. Best, Erich
