Hello Gentlemen. I found this in Paris. As daggers are not my favorite collecting, and I know very little, I would like to know your opinion. It is in Paris. Thank you.

Picture 8 shows the reverse of the lower crossguard with no issue stamp and probably enough of the blade to deduce it probably isnt maker marked so do we have the unusual combo of a 36 dagger in a 33 scabbard?

Then the accentuation of the crossguard details the throat mount and the motto appearing to be 35 mm from the crossguard my bet would be its an Eickhorn ground Rohm thats had the small Eick logo removed as well as the Rohm dedication

Hello Ian, hello A J . The dagger has no maker's mark as well as no issue stamp. Is it possible a 1936 dagger inside a 1933 scabbard? I am posting more pictures to help. dagger-011

It appears to be authentic. The unmarked blade may be one of those occasionally found in an M33 scabbard. Normally, such blades are found in an M36 ("chained") scabbard. Also, it could be a fully ground "Rohm," with the "Rohm" inscription and trademark removed.

Hi Dennys thanks for the further pictures. I would suggest it is an M36 dagger in an M33 scabbard as the centre ridge on the reverse of the blade appears crisp and quite level suggesting it has not been ground. Has the dagger been appart? If so are the crossguards stamped on the inside and are there any markings on the tang? Best wishes, Ian www.simplydaggers.co.uk

Hello again gentlemen, I thank you all very much for your expertise. I think Ian is right. The measure from the end of the word Treue and the crossguard is indeed 25mm. This dagger was never been appart or even clean. All I can say about the story of this dagger is that, until very recently, it was being used as a paper weight on a desk of an account. How rare is this dagger? What is the market value for one in this condition? Is there any regulation that examples 1936 daggers on a 1933 scabbard? Again I thank you very much! Dennys.

By the way, is there, on the inside of that leather hanger any inked stamp? Dennys.

Normally, no ink stamps were used on the leather hangers. Many, however, are stamped in the leather with markings (SS, RZM, numbers, etc.). The dagger is not rare, but, because it is "SS," is desirable and collectible. The combination of the unmarked blade and the M33 scabbard is not often seen, but is not unheard of. Value depends on a number of factors, which usually can only be determined by a personal examination by someone knowledgeable. Opinions will vary, but, generally, your dagger would be worth around $3000 at the low end, up to about $4000. Undoubtedly, some might pay more and some would not buy it at $3000, but, based on the photos only, I think that's a fair price bracket.

Dennys- I sure do like it. May I ask- did the accountant realize what he/she had?
Thanks Brian

10mm is only .040 of an inch. There is no way daggers were made to such a tight tolerance. It is strange that it is missing telltale signs. No group mark, inspection stamp, trademark. The fit of the handle to the lower crossguard is not that great. The crossguard may be on backwards. It looks like a ground Rohm by some maker we may never know who.You may need the opinion of one of the members who sleep with daggers. Shape of handle, number of threads per inch on scabbard screws, color of paint at solar euqinox, that kind of stuff.

I wonder if that grip has been replaced. The height and shape of the grip cut above the crossguard, as well as the eagle look very close to the one on my 941/38 SS repro.

Hey Zorro get a grip mate 10 mm is nearly half an inch not .040 and its a well known fact that Eickhorn Rohms had the motto 10mm further down the blade than standard

The motto type doesn't appear to be the Eickhorn pattern to me. I have seen this motto type on M36's before though. Any chance of checking the tang for forge marks, if they're there it sometimes helps.

Zorro, You prove the saying "America is going metric inch by inch" I am lucky as my job in product development for a major company was all in metrics as of 1985. Easy to remember" 1" = 2.54cm = 25.4mm Everyone, The 25mm distance does not prove or disprove anything about Eickhorn. The dagger looks to me to be: a. A well ground Rohm dagger by a manufacturer other than Eickhorn b. An M1933 with no maker mark - they do happen now and then c. An early M1936 dagger in an M1933 scabbard. A close examination might tell. Dave

Hello Again Gentlemen. Since we have serious doubts about this item I decided to take it appart since the pictures on the tang seems important. The screw on the top was incredibly tight! Lots of dirt inside that cleaned with a dry piece of cloth. No harm was done to this dagger. The tang is marked as well as the upper crossguard. So these are the new detaliled pictures. If you see any part you feel I should take new pictures, please ask. Again I thank you all very much. Best wishes. Dennys. dagger-015
