I have not until this point thought of a definative list of makers for 3rd Reich shooting association hirschfängers, here's what makers I believe I have seen.
Puma
Klaas
Horster
Alcoso
Eickhorn
Anybody seen any others, lets stick to makers that have been seen rather than what is in any period catalouges. Why not post your examples of your shooting association hirschfängers.
Also I have seen non-maker marked examples, tough to identify unless they have a unique etch pattern like Puma use. There are also examples out there that are shooting hirschfängers that are very different than the commonly seen 3rd reich type, if you have any of these then please do post them. Here's an Alcoso, not the normally seen type, dated 1934 on the blade spine.

Nice Eickhorn, very superior example, the koppelschuh for these things are almost impossible to find, I tend to look at every frog that I see at every show, only found two that I thought were right and I have looked at thousands of koppelschuh's.

The daggers in this posting are all beautiful! I don't know if it's the color combo of black on steel or what but for some reason they are extra appealing all of a sudden. Maybe I'm getting bored with the military and political daggers. Have to get at least one of these now  JohnJ

I know what you mean John. Hirschfängers show 10 times the workmanship and artistry of an SA.
If you look in period catelogues for a price comparison of an SA versus a hirschfänger in Reichmarks, you can see that the Germans recognized this.

All are very nice! Mvogel, that is a very nice WKC will all the accouterments. Notice the unusual v-notch frog. You don't see many like that.

Gary: The etching on the blade is rather shallow. And given the indoor lighting I have (neon) with the reflections there was only one pic that is useful. I might have to try again during daylight hours.

Wotan: The TM is stamped, the hilt fittings are aluminum and the scabbard fittings are plated steel.
Gary: The etch is shallow from apparent buffing or sanding by some earlier owners. I bought it about 12 years ago as a restoration project. It had been in dismal condition.

Don't know if this qualifies as a shooting association or just regular hunting dagger. I would guess it dates around the turn of the 20th century. It's a 19" narrow etched blade with all the earmarks of a hunting dagger. The only distinguishing marks are the 66 on the reverse of the crossguard and a 66 on the reverse of the top scabbard fitting.

Does anyone have an idea who the maker might be on this piece? Obviously the later shooting association pieces exhibit the crossed rifles as well as some of the earlier ones during the Imperial Period. What constitutes the distinction of being a shooting association when dealing with the early models?

Personally when I look to see if an early piece is from the shooting association I look for the simple straight lines of the scabbard mounts as yours shows, the long length is also a good indicator as well. These were also used for military use, I do believe yours is a "Schützen" piece, I have seen them with that type scabbard lug as well. Another good indicator is the matt finish you nearly always find on the area of the riccaso and down the blade an inch or so,this trait is seen on a lot of shooting hirschfängers right through the Imperial/Weimar and 3rd Reich periods.I believe I can see this trait on your hirschfänger. My best guess on the maker is either Alcoso or WKC, I lean though to Alcoso.

Your blade etch is similar, almost identical to my WKC 1871 dress bayo. So maybe a WKC?

This type dagger can be shooting or just a private purchase hunting or forestry dagger--but --Look for the ones with a target as part of the etch.
