I got some new photos in my collection today and I guess the SS-collectors out there would appreciate to see them. First one is a Standartenoberjunker of the Wiking: Detail of cuff-title and dagger: Detail of the hat and collar tabs: Photo is dated 1944. It came with another photo of the same guy, in Panzer uniform: Another nice portrait is that Totenkopf soldier: Very nice details of the insignia: One portrait of a Deutschland soldier: Next one is a Leibstandarte soldier from the Reichskanzlei guards. Unfortunately the photo was folded in the middle and it lacks a bit sharpness, but anyway, a nice shot too: Last one is very early SS: This guy attracted my attention: He is wearing a ring with runes: So far so good. Got some new SA-photos too and will post them in the appropriate Forum. Kind regards Robert

Photo of the cuff title and dagger in wear,Were we short of chains anyone notice the hangers look like Army hangers. Now did he have his dagger with him or is this a studio piece?or is this his way of wearing his dagger?I personally feel there were a lot of little unexplained things done in wear such as this.He may have been in the Heer before SS and this was his way of showing it.I also remember reading about Heer members attached to the Luft, they wore luft jacket ,heer pants with heer dagger.I just cannot find this reference and it my be something in my mind.

The Officer visor hat is way too big for him as well. Might have been studio 'props' for the usage of individuals who 'dropped in' for a picture to send back home??

Great photos Robert. Lots of interesting details to look at.
You know, I have an SS signet ring very much like the one shown in the photo. I bought it from the son of the veteran who brought it back around 1960. It is always nice to see this sort of unoffical do-dad in period photographs. Non-standard rings, daggers, etc. are always suspect but photos seem to always prove the exception to every rule. Brocade Heer hangers on an SS dagger... what collector would ever buy such a thing for his collection?

Great pics...Note also the manner of the soutache attachment on the TK enlisted overseas cap.
Attached by one exterior loop at the top above the skull and not sewn directly to the cap.

Ausgezeichnet, Robert! Not only does the Wiking officer have non-SS dagg hangers - the scabbard seems non-SS, too. the middle band seems plain and smooth without the SS SWASTIKA design. Tho the pic is fuzzy SS scabb. bands are heavily "cut" and you'd think something would show up; not no..... So yeh - I guess uniform regs were relaxed for studio portraits; and who knows? Maybe if you went to another town you could even get a "promotion" by putting on the photographer's "costumes!"

Military men are a strange bunch. Anyone on this board who were in the military can attest to that. Myself, I wore Viet Nam jungle boots with all uniforms after returning from Viet Nam. I was told a number of times , these boots are not prescibed. I said "ok", and wore them anyway. I earned them and decieded I would wear them. The spirit of the military is inherent to any army. Love the variations in the period photos. Thanks to all. NH....

I agree a lot of the items may have been studio props.Even today props are being used, just look at a lot of the young people today .They buy camo tee's and pants when they can get them free of charge.
