Hi Just started a new homepage. Main theme will be the volunteers from the German minority in Nordschleswig, Denmark, who served in the Waffen SS. Lots of related photos and documents will be shown. Have a look and tell me what you think and how how it works: http://home20.inet.tele.dk/nordschleswig/index.htm#HomeThanks AJ

Quote: As a consequence of the defeat in the Danish - Prussian war in 1964, Denmark lost the duchy of Schleswig Holstein to Prussia. The duchy of Schleswig Holstein remained a part of Germany until 1920, when it was split and the northern part of Schleswig was voted back to Denmark as a result of the treaty of Versailles.
Hello Please check the years again.
How can there be a defeat in the Danish - Prussian war in 1964, yet remained until 1920?
Otherwise darn nice site...

1864, actually. It is a small error, granted how many other outrageous things transpire on these sites that betray a catastrophic ignorance about the past. I am also sure that such is a really just a typo. Who can date the other two wars of German unification, of which the Danish war (...die Schanzen von Dueppel...) was the first? Kohlenklau's page looks very nice and contains interesting knowledge.

So, komm doch mal...when were the two other wars and where? What was the role of Bad Ems in one of them? I love Bad Ems. It is on the river Lahn up from the confluence of same with the Rhein with Koblenz, also a favorite place of mine. I have never been to Dueppel, or to Denmark at all. I should show solidarity since the silly fight over the cartoons. I have not been to Koeniggraetz, either. viel Sammerlglueck nach Skandinavien.

Great website. Many thanks for sharing the information and the photographs. So, the three wars fought by Otto von Bismarck which led to the German unification were the 1) German-Danish War of 1864 which started after the annexation of Schleswig and Holstein by Danmark). 2) The Austrian-Prussian war of 1866 (to reduce the tension between Prussia and Austria) and 3) the well known Franco-German war of 1870-1871 starting after a dispute between France and Germany. Prince Leopold of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen - cousin of William I of Prussia - would take against the will of France the throne in Spain. Count Beneditte was send by France to Bad Ems were King William was on holidays. The King refused to oppose against Leopold taking the throne in Spain. Very exciting part of European history. JS http://www.geocities.com/benm38/thirdcollection.htmHere a pic of Bad Ems I found on the internet.

Bravo, JS. If I could, I would treat you to Kaffee and Kuchen in the Kurkonditorei which is behind the trees in the picture you appended. The event your describe took place along the banks of the Lahn, there. I used to spend a lot of time in Koblenz and Bad Ems. eine schoene Zeit. For me the Kaffee and Kuchen is now problematisch wegen dem Blutdrueck und dem Blutfettspiegel...wie traurig....
