Sitting this fine Saturday morning and staring in amazement at a couple of deliveries. Eek

1st is an Eickhorn Army product with horseshoe hangers. It has the post'41 "Over the Shoulder" mark that is soooooo hard to find, let alone conditioned like this one is. 4th style crossguard as one would expect, last style scabbard, plated very nicely (my other has the unplated type fittings).

2nd is a G. Weyersberg Army equipped with all Horster fittings and scabbard. VIrtually all lacquer present and has that splotched look that drives me nuts. Rarity is only surpassed by the condition.

Both are what makes this such an exciting hobby to me. OH Well, I'm over these already and onto bigger and better finds now.......... Big Grin

It's the thrill of the chase to me.....and I'm trying to run down another rare beauty that I saw recently...... Big Grin

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but hearts wouldn't stand the strain of looking directly at 'em... Besides, the type of fittings utilized by each is the important thing here.

Denny,

Nice pick ups both. Not that I'm a Heer specific guy, but I don't think I've even seen an over the shoulder Eick mark on a Heer piece before. Great condition on both too.

I've seen 3 different variations of the Eickhorn, "Over the Shoulder" post'41, mark.

The “over the shoulder” Eickhorn marking was discussed recently on the Bayonet Forum as one that is rarely seen - and then (most probably) only until early 1942. What say dagger collectors? Regards, FP

Wonderful daggers, thank you for showing. The EICKHORN has wonderful patination which is a sign for quality silvering contrary to the late manufacturing date.
The G.WEYERSBERG has large portions of the original frosted silvering, a nice look.
Most interesting to see these daggers with these seldom seen trademarks and to study their fittings.
FP, please, what is the name if the certain thread in the bayonet section mentioned by you?

Wotan, The thread was really about some very nice early high grade dress bayonets. The thread got into the “over the shoulder” Eickhorn markings when the sub-topic of the timing of the latest dates for etching came into play. Regards, FP
