Larry: Looks text book all the way, with the tapered tang. Not that you needed any more assurance, but it is always comforting when things turn out just as expected. What about the the two acorns on the scabbard ends? Does it have them? On my transitional Hollers,(the variations used right before yours) the early one does not have them, but the later one does. All of the models like yours,(Type 3)that I have examined have them.

Hey Ford, This is going to sound silly since I am not an Army collector,,but I looked on both ends of the scabbard and did not see any indication of the 2 acorns on it. The scabbard I have is pretty well plain except for the carrying bands. Can you post a picture of this, I would like to see it. Also is it possible that this is an Eichorn scabbard? Best Larry

So this is early. The fewer number of graduations on the makers mark threw me off somewhat. Larry your scabbard is Holler. Here below are 3 pictures I have just taken for you to compare. You will see the acorns stamped to conceal the seam.
I`m not exactly sure when the tapered tangs were phased out but only very few early 2nd luft daggers have a tapered tang and they were introduced in 1937.
I would place these daggers around 1937. The scarcity of the initial production pieces by Holler who were a fairly major manufacturer would seem to preclude them being any later. I would be interested to hear other opinions.

Larry: I agree with Lanser. Your have a Holler scabbard. Here are two Holler scabbards. Sorry but a little out of focus. The one on the left is a Type 2 (Transitional Holler), earlier than yours, and the one on the right is a type 3, like yours. Great photos Lanser.

Larry: For someone who is not an army collector, you have an example nicer than exists in many army collections. That's just plain wrong.

Lanser, I would also put the vintage around 1937, mostly because of the tang. I too have noted tapered tangs on some early lufts.

Thanks for the photos Landser, I misunderstood when Ford said scabbard ends! Like a dope I looked at the bottom and top of the scabbard not realising Ford meant the scabbard bands. Not it makes sense to me. Ford your knowledge on this sublect is "Immense" and I thank you for your input. Providence fell upon me since this is my one and only Army that I have. Wittmanns desription of it back then was generic so I thought I had a common Army with a few extra "goodies that came with it. One of these days I might think about trading it for a Chained SS, but Im sure that is quite laughable, but yet its possible. Thanks again Larry

Larry: Sorry I did mean the scabard band ends. I was so excited looking at your dagger photos, I lost my concentration.
