MY NEIGHBOR SAID HE HAD A GERMAN DAGGER THAT HIS FATHER INLAW BROUGHT BACK FROM THE WAR.I THOUGHT IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A RUSTY BAYONET OR SOMETHING.WHEN I SAW THE BROWN HANDLE MY EYES LITE UP.IT WAS A EARLY C. LINDER WITH PA. INSIDE THE CROSSGARDS,CA ON THE TANG AND A WM GAU MARK ON THE LOWER CROSSGARD.THE ONLY THING I DIDNT LIKE WAS THE SPACE INBETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE LOWER CROSSGARD.DO YOU GUYS THINK THIS IS A PARTS DAGGER BECAUSE OF THIS ?SORRY FOR THE POOR PHOTOS. JOE.

Joe:
I can't tell from this picture if the dagger is properly assembled. Why don't you take it apart and reverse the lower crossguard and see if that helps with the fit.

If you can, show a close up picture of the space between the blade and lower crossguard... on both sides.

I couldn't tell from your picture if the GAU mark was on the right side or not. It should be on the back of the lower crossguard.

Joe,
Jim M's advice is correct for the first step. I have seen daggers that did not fit correctly only because someone did not know how to put them back together properly.

So, the first thing I would do is disassemble it and check to see how the parts originally fit. Factory assembled daggers usually had the blade pressed into the lower crossguard. It could be someone took it apart and the blade needs to be reset.

Even though a poor photo, the parts look original early to me.

I hope this helps.

I don't have one myself Joe but I'd suggest you contact either Kingtiger or Mike M(the SA Moderator) since both specialize in SAs. Perhaps one of them can help.

Hi Joe
I decided to gently remove the top guard from my C. Linder and take a peak. It is marked P A and my Gau marking is Ns. Hope this helps.

Joe,

Two other thoughts: The dagger could have been assembled that way. Not all the early stuff is perfect. Also, some of the lower guards were put on very very tightly. So tight you have to use a rubber mallet if you want to get them off and back on. Maybe this happened to take it down.
