Eric, do a search on google or another engine regarding purplehearts. I know there is a really good website devoted to them that shows the different types and from what years. Really great web site. i just cant think of the name right now. Maybe somebody here might know

The PH looks like a crimp broach, so I'd guess it's no earlier then the 70's. Need to see the back! Still, for $20 I don't think you did too badly.
