That's a pretty rare bird, not too many want to bring them out of the safe for just a few pics. There's a few pics in the refrence books and a couple on the net that will give you an idea of what they look like.
Good Luck Randal.

Among all my experiences in this hobby over fifty years, handling an original one of these is at the top of my "most dissappointing list". I was totally shocked by the light weight and poor construction (JMO) of this beautifully designed dagger. The only one of this design that I have handled with saving grace is the presentation one to Viktor Lutz. Well made and much better construction, it is a prize. JMO, Ron Weinand

I think it is just a point of view. Although I do collect only for several decades for me it always has been the highlight of my collecting activities to handle/own one of these very rare birds. It is a pleasure to study it especially as there are a lot of fakes around. Personally it is a sport for me to detect the faks and the original ones. Although we seriously can assume that there were only few over 50 originals made there are some (period) variants of this dagger. Also who wore it and who got it bestowed and what variants were bestowed and what variants were worn as simple "duty-dagger" by the proper SA members (to my best knowledge the leaders of the FHH and the leaders of the staff of OSAF) is worth for researching. The leightweight material of originals has very inovative at these times. Another reason for the phrase "if you do collect german items you have to think in a german way" (NOT meant in any political way!). Due to my researches around 12 to 15 original daggers still do exist today in collections. What I can see in the well known pic (to elder members here) of mvogels dagger I dare to doubt that this certain dagger is made of period surplus parts. Regards,
wotan, gd.c-b#105

quote: inovative
There is nothing at all inovative about the material or manufacture. Real ones are super rare but by no means made well. As Ron has already said.

The repros even have the same scabbard flaw. But for me it is the fittings that are the downfall. At a old drawbridge show I was able to take apart a repro and a orginal and there was manufacture differences.
