This is simply a "Spin-Off" of Ken N.'s thread on old photos. I went digging and found several. I know this is the Helmet forum and many of these pics are not helmets (only one is), but you are all my friends so I thought I'd share.
These photos are from collections of my father, one of his friends and me. Since my father and his friend started collecting this stuff in the 40's - many of the photos are in black and white. They are all REAL!.... So don't hate me. This is why I grew up born to collect...

Ah, those halcyon days of yesteryear! More knee buckling than ever in retrospect.

Not a mans age ago and our politicians have already forgotten and erased almost all military defence we had left.... history is a funny thing. Enjoy!

Tom,
Amazing photos. I always love to see what was around back in the early days. It's easy to see how someone could get bitten by the "collecting bug" with all that cool stuff around them. Looking forward to more pics.
Cheers,
Darryl

Tom, that is just amazing...... What did the neighbors think when you rolled that beast out on your lawn....
On the same token, I remember a neighbor having a German M34 MG sitting in front of his house in Norway during the early 70's for a long time. I remember my dad pointing it out to me.
Also, my dad and his frinds had a Hotchkiss MG that they used to play war with back in the late 40's/early 50's.

Those were the good old days...
Never had the luck of you gents but did get some things. The stuff was certainly available - all you had to do was run an ad in your local paper.

That nebelwerfer undoubtedly drew stares from passers-by. Since the 'big guns' are being brought out, I thought Id post a picture of my own lawn ornament.
Captured on October 10, 1918 northeast of Verdun by the U.S. 103rd infantry regiment, 26th Division. This German FK16 sat in front of the courthouse at Warfield, Rhode island until the 1980s. I did the restoration and now it used as my favoite lawn furniture. Sitting in the seats that straddle the barrel (where the gunners rode during transport) and reading my newspaper on sunday morning....ahhh....

Outstanding photos Tom and Ken, Love looking at the Lewis guns and the Maxims. But Tom, that was pre-1968, did they get properly registered?
Yes Ken please share with us a pic of you sitting on that German field gun in your skivies and reading the paper on Easter Sunday.
Great thread Gentlemen, John

Okay. Now I see where he gets it from. I wish I could say my dad were as interesting when I was young.
Hey Tom. 1961. Hmmmmm. That would have made you ZERO years old when that picture was taken?

Yes - Many of these photos were taken before I was born, but that doesn't mean all the stuff was gone. All of the Automatic weapons WERE gone, though - due to the FFA of 65. They went up for auction and were purchased by the FBI Academy. Still, I had lots of goodies to look at...

Is that an Schturm Gewehr 44 (SG44) ??? What are those things going for these days? I sat down a few weeks ago and tried to find some on-line that were for sale.
