I would appreciate your help and opinions on this Police helmet.I have taken the pics in natural daylight to try and show the colours of the camoflauge. The decal is about 70% and I believe it to be Police. Some of the paint is textured and is sparse on the top revealing what looks to black underneath The liner looks original as does the chinstrap, which has no markings, the bockle appears to be aluminium. The maker is QUIST,size 64.The issue looks to be very low at 32. Any and all comments are gratefully received as I am very new to the helmet collecting part of our hobby. Regards,Ivan.

Looks like a post war Norwegian chinstrap ,the pictures are not quite in focus and sort of merge into the background ,perhaps some close ups of the decal and top of the helmet could help.Rob

HUMMMMH!!?? I share Rob's concern on the chin strap. Liner looks to be OK to me. I can't tell if the interior of the helmet is dark green or black from the photos. Note the decal is a bit out of normal position, being a bit forward and not centered on the vent. Better close up photos of the decal and the texture of the cammo paint would help here. Cheers, Mike

Gentlemen, I have tried to take further pics, but I cant get it right, the flash spoils it,I will keep trying or wait until daylight. The interior baffles me,in daylight it looks black, under my kitchen spot lights it looks very dark green. Rev.Mike,I searched the historic threads and found a post re a Police helmet, the decal was in a similar position to mine, slightly forward, this to was a combat helmet, you commented on it too. http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2583025185...120070782#9120070782 I take on board the chinstrap,as I have mentioned I am new to these things.I have Thomas Kibler and Robert Iqbals book Combat Helmets of the Third Reich vol 2,and wish to educate myself re thes helmets, they are addictive. The top of the helmet definately shows black through the cam paint, the cam paint seems textured in places,it looks wel aged and period done, but as I say,I'm a hemet novice. Would the chinstrap be a post war fitting?or a period done replacement Regards,Ivan

I wish I could give you a definite yes or no answer on this one. Leaving the chinstrap aside, I note that some of the areas that are rusted look a bit new - based only on the colour that I can see. The wear seems a bit un natural in areas and the eagle has the tell-tale areas defaced at critcal points. On the other hand, it does seem to be snuggled down into the finish indicating to me, at least that it has been there for a long time. If the base colour of the helmet is actually black, as opposed to very dark green that would also be a concern. I like the look of the helmet overall but I should think it would need a real hands on inspection to be sure. I hope someone better versed in cammos will chime in here and give a more informed opinion. Cheers, -Mike

I don't like the liner much either. The size stamp is remarkably sharp and the sweat holes look to small.

Rev.Mike Dark green,I have been looking at it all day and it is definately dark green, like I say I am a novice when it comes to helmets,so I appreciate all the help I can get. The holes in the liner are similar in size to my M40 Lufty, that's all I can report on that I'm afraid. Regards,Ivan.

I am not a helmet expert but i can state with certainty that the liner is not original. at any rate at least the leather. i know a guy who used to get a lot of refurbished helmets in his shop & the colour finish & look is identical to that shown. The chin strap is also identical to that of 2 norwegian helmets that I had. I would not touch this one myself. Just my opinion of course.

Landser, I think the liner LOOKS possible, but again I would have to have a hands-on to say for sure. You may well be right. This helmet has a few issues to be sure. Let's hope for the owner's sake it is not a fabrication. If it is - well; we all have learned lessons in the past and have gone on.

i have to agree with Schwerpunkt's prognosis-at first glance & after careful consideration, the liner looks like a well-aged modern Czech repro.having said that, i'd love to be proved wrong! have you a photo of the felt band & liner brads?that would help. the paint job looks a tad convoluted, inconsistent wear, possible post-war undercoat etc.there arte too many issues with this helmet for me, i'm afraid-sorry!
