Hey Guys,

I`ve just bought this absolutely beautiful early Eick with slant grip and Personalisation on the reverse of the crossguard. Big Grin
Nice early double oval TM and the blade is just great!
But my question is, is this the first type crossguard eagle? I mean, I`m sure it is, but it does`nt look like the example in Wittmann`s book?? Could I get some confirmation on this please!

Hi Dion heres mine for comparison.looks very close, but don't forget they were all hand enhanced so there is bound to be some difference.has yours got the C.E. mark on the blade tang.

Both fantastic examples of early Eick manufacture, great to see both with fittings that are identical. I saw this one on fleabay also and suprisingly it went the distance.
Your pictures do this dagger more justice than the auction did.....whats the blade like?.
Also check out the hand enhancing to both pommel caps, they could almost have been done by the same craftsman Smile.

Great dagger I was also watching this one. Looks like a 1st style crossguard to me. Is the blade nickel plated?

Tom's book doesn't show all four accepted Eick crossguards, Ist & 2nd types are very similar, yours is definitely one of either, nice dagger!!

Hey Guys,

Many thanks for all the compliments and interest! Its greatly appreciated Smile But, I had to pay a very high price to get this beauty, and I can well imagine that some of you were watching with great interest Big Grin Big Grin
Most proberbly the reason why I had to pay such a high price Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

To answer some of the questions:

Sean, firstly, I`d like to say that your dagger you pictured is a real pearler! Razz I just love that silvering, although, I must admit, a dark patina also appeals to me. To answer your question, I have`nt received mine as yet, its still in the post, but, as soon as I get it, I`ll check to see if there is a CE mark on the tang. Didnt even know there wuld be one??

Tom: Whether the blade is nickel or not, I wont be able to say until it arrives? But, I was always under the impression that Eickhorn only produced polished blades Confused
Is`nt this the case? I`ve never seen an Eickhorn with a nickel plated one? I must say, this would interest me, if you could clear me up on that?

Gustavo: Yes, I did purchase the "Spnnemann" dagger and I think it`ll make a very interesting research topic! I only hope I get somewhere with it? Many thanks for the tips and the info, its greatly appreciated Wink

I`ve included a pic of the blade, so maybe one can determine whether its plated or not. To me it looks like its polished? By the way, the vet who had it, applied alot of grease to the blade to preserve it, and it looks like it did the job, but needless to say, I`ll be removing it when it arrives.
Once again Gents, many thanks for the compliments!

Cheers,
Dion

As far as I know Eick produced both types of blade. I have a 2nd Luft with plated blade that is beyond reproach, also Wittman refers to Eick plated blades in his books.

Nolan,

You`re absolutely right!!! Confused I seemed to have missed that info in the book! He does quite clearly state that initial production blades were plated.
Sorry for my ignorance! Teaches me to concentrate when reading Wink

Dion Wittmann does state that some early blades were nickel plated but does not matter either way on this one I would be happy with either. You can use acetone to take the grease off the blade I bet it shines like a diamond. I did bid $1050 on the dagger in the last minute but my bid was not accepted because it had already surpassed that.

Tom, I`ll try acetone and see how it works. I have to admit, this dagger was one of the most hair raising bids I`ve ever gone through!!! I bid $1090; when there were only 30 seconds left, and to my horror, the bidding had surpassed that as well??? EekI literally only had about 10 seconds left to place a higher bid, and just managed, by the skin of my teeth, to place that higher bid, and got it just in time!!! Wink So I`ve been very lucky!

Hi Paul,

Thanks mate, I`m also enjoying the no maker monogrammed one I bought off you. Has a nice place in the collection! That brings it now to 4, the personalised pieces in my collection.

I was watching that one as well. Nice score!
When you get it, be very careful before attempting to clean the blade. From the photo, which the seller also sent to me, I see something that looks like lifting on the blade plating. This may be the photos and you'll only know with dagger in hand. If it is lifting, you don't want to use anything that will cause more to come off. Glad it went to a member here. Keep us posted!

Hey Willy,

Thanks mate! I`ll definately look at that, lets hope its not a question of the plating lifting?? Eek
I do however still think this blade is the polished type, but, I`ll only be able to access that once it arrives.
Many thanks for the compliments!

cheers,
Dion

Hi Sean,

To answer your question mate, yip, this one does have the raised letters C.E, stamped on the tang. I`ve included a pic.

Willy, I`ve just received the dagger, and the blade is definately polished, not plated. I`ve cleaned off all the grease and the blade is a real STUNNER!! Cool
I`m happy!
