I find it odd that all the scratches and marks stop where the decals stop, and the paint begins

Yeah zorro, I noted that as well. Sorta like someone was "aging" the decals but forgot the painted surface to which they adhere to. There are indeed scars on the painted surface but none extend FROM the outer periphery scars on the decals them selves.
I know a guy who "aged" TR repro stuff with urine, left the item(s) in the hot CA sun a few days and presto, a "Real" artifact!

well i see nothing wrong in those decals, what a dd is worth and what you would get are two different things, here in the uk ,its worth around the 1600 mark, a dealer would give you around 800-900 for resale .

Of course - just for clarification -Phil is quoting in Pounds Sterling.
I am famous for not being able to tell if SS runes decals are original. With that in mind, and pending Rob telling us the maker of the shell, I'd have to say they look good to me. I do see several areas (you must look closely) where scratches or scuffing goes onto the shell & off of the decal.I would consider that these are the result of stacking helmets. Usually when the M35 series is stacked, the chin strap bales are right about where the decals are located. Anyway, that's my theory. Perhaps Darryl will have a look at this one and give a hand. I do notice an area of flaking so that may be a red flag.
Cheers,
-Mike

Hi Mike , I have to agree with you that the decal flaking is a Big redflag for me as well. But I am not a expert as well. I would like to have a second opinion from a more knowledgeable person as well.

Thanks Joe Semen

Hi, I would like to make one more note that my gut feeling is that this helmet might have been redecaled. I hope a more knowledgeable people will comment. It is hard to tell for me , without the hands on . There are people here that know their ss decals very well. And I hope they will comment on this matter. For example Darryl Pajot.

Thanks for your replies, Rob.

Only in the back? Doesn't sound right since this is an M35. Have the seller check the left hand side near where the curve begins. Possibly a weak strike but it should be there.

I might be wrong but it seems to me that I see faint brush strokes in the paint especially in the decal close ups. I certainly am no expert but the decals are over bumps in the paint.. I find that odd. I have examined many double decal m/35 helmets and never noticed that phenomenon before. I am sure that all of the early d/d helmets were spray painted therefore having no brush strokes.
The national decal has what appears to me as heat damage to it. I have seen that before on artifically aged decals. I would not be comfortable investing in this particular helmet.

I'll play. Just exersizing my learning here. For what it's worth.

From the profile it looks to me like a Q shell. The color would match the lighter felgrau of 1938. Later Q's were a darker felgrau. The single aluminum band (which looks broken) would fall into line with that.

Now the decals to me (I'm a rookie) appear both to be Pochers.

I was under the impression that VERY early Q's were issued with Pochers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The thing is, the rune is applied crooked. The paint is not smooth, there is "stuff" in it and may have brush marks.

If it is a reissue, early pea green is a strange choice. And the color appears to be the same on the inside.

Lotsa stuff to consider. Interesting helmet.

I saw a double decal ss sell at the reliant show in houston for $2200.00. it looks good. When I can get where I can load pictures to the forum, I have a double decal m35 camo and a double decal black m35 allegimine. all original and nice.

G24t a straightup DD SS in decent condition have been running 9000 and up US. An allegimine blacky just sold recently for 24K. Blackies are a different realm.

Please post up your helmets, they would be nice to see.

I sent Rob some photographs of my white camo and my black SS. Also, my pith helmet. there was a news paper cliping in the band of my white camo, it starts with "einer deutfchen mutter beim heldentod ihres sohnes. it is in script, did the best I could. ends with Heil Hitler! Gertrud B. It was neat to find this.

The SS M35 at the beginning of this thread is a good early VT helmet IMHO. Nice example.

Ok guys , now that we have solved the helmet reallness factor , back to my original question why I posted this helmet in the first place.
What is the market value for a helmet like this?

Hi Norge ,

thats not the deal i would go for Wink
but I am not selling I was just curious.
I do think that 7000$ ( 5075 euro) would be very cheap.
If you have a couple like this one for that price..... Want a deal? Big Grin
