Just wondering if anyone has come across a light proof mark stamping (as on a Type II chain) on the rear of a plated Type I chain?

BTW, I have done an extensive search on this forum as well as having a good look through Tom Wittmans book on this subject.

You should post a picture so we can see exactly what you are talking about. I have seen them stamped a little lighter than the one (type 1) I currently have. They were totally authentic also. I wouldn't be too worried about it, if I was you.

To date, I have never seen the hand stamped variety of the 'SS Kulturzeichen' on a "Type I" chain link. Here is an earlier thread on the different types of chain links and markings. FP

Wow, that is lighter than I have seen on a type 1 chain. I have seen them not quite as deep as my current one, but that looks like ones I have seen only on the type 2s. Maybe it is just the picture playing with my eyes. I'll be interested to see what the other guys think about this one.

It�s not just the depth. It�s the width of the border and the �SS�. And the placement of the intertwined �SS� itself. IMHO a completely different die set or stamp was used to stamp the chain link. Also, the dagger seems to have nickel silver crossguards (?). Not enough information yet to proceed - but I think that it�s fair to say that it bears further investigation to try and understand why this example is different from what is normally expected. FP

Just to confirm a few more details of the dagger.
It is a maker marked Klass dagger with an attributable serial number which has been married up to a chained scabbard (the SS chap who owned the dagger appears in the Officers List in 1938). The dagger does have nickel cross guards and the scabbard has plated fitting as a Type I.

I tried to get up a picture for reference but my P.O.S. digital camera does not seem to like very close-up shots. Type 1 chain, all plated fittings, anodized scabbard, classic deep stamp in chain. Sorry for the lousy pic!

I must admit that by the lack of comment on this subject of the lighter struck Kulturzeichen on a Type I chain is leaving me very mystified.
I ask again as anyone else (thanks Fred and Vic!) come across this before, and, as anyone else got any comments on it?!!

It seems that the center scabbard mount also has a single screw on a anodized scabbard. That is not the first time I've seen that.
