Josias makes a good point, that this type of armband is often associated with the SA's brownshirt

It's generally believed that the cotton armbands were for use with the cotton brownshirt, and that wool armbands were meant for the wool tunic. I think this was largely adhered to, but I also imagine that they often used what was around. The wool versions were probably more expensive. My early wool SA tunic has a cotton armband just like this.
