If you are sending any goods abroad please dont send them as "a gift" to avoid customs charges, unless you have been paid for them.

Lets just say if you ever have a problem getting paid, you could well find that the fact the item was sent as "a gift" could be used against you.

First of all, nothing gets sent out without payment unless it is to someone you trust implicitly and have dealt with honourably over the years.

The 'gift' thing is one way to try to beat customs duties and taxes. Some people see it as their duty in life to try to avoid giving anything more than the government blood ****ers have already taken from us, others see it as their role to be fair and just in making sure that all people pay their share of taxes.

Me, I think that all of you should pay your fair share, but I try to pay as little as possible while staying on the legal side of the equation. If that occasionally demands little white lies, so be it.

Merry Christmas.

Here in Canada the "gift" thing doesn't work at all.
The only way to avoid the Customs charges is the "Returned to the original owner" ... but sometimes they would ask for the proof.

Mongobongo...I'll Bet (of course I don't know this as fact, only guessing) chris told him to mark it as a "gift" once that was done,he knew he was not going to pay him.

Overseas shipping is horrible. You can do certain shipments to one country with a certain method than the next country its verboten. Every time I go to ship something overseas at the post I leave angrier than a mountain lion! I no longer ship by marking gift. I'm not going to get screwed, no way!

I have learned my lesson, after having a chained NSKK confiscated in the UK, and given the choice of having it returned, or destroyed on the spot ,,, All because it was not properly described.

I have never used the "gift" option in any case, I always use "other".

What about reporting the true value? On a couple of instances I had to say the item I shipped was worth $200 because the person receiving had told me that he was charged taxes on the item.

You under value at your own risk.
If it comes time to collect, you'd look mighty silly trying to claim $1,500 on an item you declared to be worth only $150.

You will look silly, right before you look really, really angry when they tell you that you can't claim the real amount..its happened before, and it will surely happen again..
