I wanted to ask the membership about the authenticity of this unissued helmet. Some questions were brought up on another forum, and I don't want to offer a bad piece. The helmet is in "like new" condition, and I didn't see any problems. However, I can be mistaken, and want to poll the helmet experts here. Will be glad to provide closer photos of the decal if need be. http://www.craiggottlieb.com/data/inspect.asp?Item=2387

I would photo the decal head on so we can have a good look!!! IMO the decal is post war applied and the price is a joke to start with
i have read the WA forum slagging off and because i dont know you it can only mean one of two things. now take into account the dd km you had months ago!! and now this m42sd heer i would say someone is yanking your chain and plumbing you with suspect lids at silly money or two you are being less than honest!!
lets here your side

That "decal" looks like a Toys 'R Us sticker more than a decal. Just my personal opinion. Mark

Mega mint??? Not even close. From that angle, decal looks a little goofy.

I'm no helmet expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I question why you would take a poll AFTER you've already described this helmet as "spectacular and truly mint" on your web site. Further, even your own photos show the liner to be less than mint. I'd have certainly run this piece by a couple of true helmet experts prior to subjecting myself to ridicule such as has occurred on other forums(and on this very thread). Don't take this as a personal attack, simply an observation

Yes, that's the point - I'm interested in whether or not the decal is correct. Maybe mega-mint is an extreme, but it's the originality of the helmet that I'm interested in verifying. I'll gladly post photos on Monday.

I would tend to stay clear of German helmets in the future they seem to be giving you problems in the pricing and the appraisal department it would be interesting to hear this forums moderators view????

"This is a spectacular helmet, truly mint and unissued.
Interior lining shows no wear, This is a mega, mint helmet, that should satisfy the most discriminating collector" A slight exageration I feel . The decal looks unusual and to be quite frank new .Rob.

Here's the reply from Kelly Hicks, regarding the helmet and decal. Posted with his permission. Last sentence edited because it had nothing to do with the helmet.

so far I'd say original decal but not as found on this kind of lid. Early reissue as expected on Trannies and M35's... But the picture is still a bad one to judge the decal 100%.
Not a helmet for me and comes not even close as described on the site.

So what are you looking for here,The other forum pretty much said its peace. If your looking for a "Blessing" you should have just contacted Hicks outright.
As for the Decal itself It sort of does have a Sticker look to it,the edges are awfully high looking,if its worn there then thats no good either, unnatural wear for the piece. As Kelly said it could be the registry from printing but to the rest of the world it looks like a Curb at the edge of the decal.
On the WAF forum it seems they have a lot of Craig threads...why is that?

If this is the helmet posted on his website for sale the only problem I have with it is the crazy price.......and for that much it doesn't even come with a chinstrap and the liner? Truly not mint IMHO......

quite apart from the graphics, the decal just doesn't blend into the paint's surface, which an original will do. not a lid i'd be happy to pay for, & certainly not at the selling price.
