hi all, this should probably go under another forum, but being SS.....

Podium banner. Main shot is not so good, (foggy) so will make another. Measures 23"w, 21"top-bot (with fringe). Appears to have been unissued.

Thoughts good/bad appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry, this is bad.

Materials, construction, all point to Pakistan.

Hey trabant, do you have realy this old car? Here we have had many of them in communism era Big Grin. It is ultra hardcore car.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble but this is an original podium banner. It was mine. I got it from a vet about 20 or 25 years ago. The pics don't so it justice.

I WILL TAKE THE MINORITY VIEW AND SAY IT HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING PERIOD. THE FRINGE APPEARS TO BE OF THE TYPE FOUND ON PERIOD FLAGS. IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT THIS WAS LOCALLY MADE AND NOT PURCHASED THROUGH ANY OFFICIAL CHANNELS. WITHOUT A HANDS ON EXAMINATION, A DEFINITE OPINION MUST BE RESERVED.

It's too bad, because many of the posts are now lost to time, because this type of banner exhibits some period features, and others which scream Pakistan or Eastern Europe.

I still edge towards bad, vet purchase story or no.

I concur with Bob. The hand-made SS items can be difficult to judge as to authenticity. Workmanship, materials and age are about all you have to go on. Provenance, when available, of course. gives any item a boost.

while bob and grumpys opinion are taken on board, surely the sizing of the runes and angles would suggest a poor effort at faking. hope for you its good, but ive stated my opinion, if i say it on a stall i would walk away.

I understand uncertainty with the way things are today and rightfully so. I have been out of the loop for a long time, but if any of you were collecting 20 or 25 years ago you know that repro's screamed repro back them. This is why I basicly stopped buying things for the most part.Well unless I find it at a yard sale for $10,haha.It is a very sad thing when a hobby is ruined like this. Now and again I pull something out of a footlocker to sell and people that know me, know it is good if I tell them so. But as I said " the way things are today". Anyway, Have fun with the hobby and don't lose sight of the fun it can be.

BN, that's a great attitude, and one that is refreshing to hear.

We all may have differences of opinions on things, but it is the love of this hobby that keeps us coming back for more!
