I would leave the patina as it is. I think a lot of the guys into collecting these look for it, should you ever decide to sell. Also it seems to me the dents & dings show more once the piece is polished.
By the way, nice 1st Luft. Any photo's of the blade?

Here's one I got a few months back. It's an early small oval Eickhorn. The grip looks to me like it came off of an aluminum model. I'm not sure if or when it was replaced, but from the minor disintegration of the leather under the pommel nut, I would guess a long time ago if it was
The blue black patina on the silver plating is what I find most attractive in these 1st models.

Nice honest dagger Matarese. These really are lovely daggers & IMO somewhat under-valued in todays market. I wouldn`t clean this either. some daggers look good just the way they are. Flash photography always highlights the wear on the grips. I would just give it a wipe with renwax myself. Good score buddy!
John, your looks like a great piece with plenty of silver left on it! And blueboyukb I can recommend you do get one.....real class!

Matarese, I am glad that the attitude regarding cleaning has come around to a "Hands Off" approach to cleaning with the majority of my collegues. Your 1st Luft is beautiful! Keep it just like that. Congrats! -wagner-
