That's right, it's on eBay.....

Ebay is no different that going to some gun show. You never know what might pop up....

I'm new to helmets, and I now know not to bid on this one...

Thanks for your valued opinions.......

Winter camo is by far the most difficult to judge. Cody can show pics of how easy it is to fake white paint.
I would pass on this one also.

But here is one that we agree is real

Here is the other side. Notice it all comes down to wear and aging.

Hi John,

Thanks for the information and the images. The difference between the two is obvious. Tricky business these helmets. I've been collecting TR daggers for a long time (17 yrs.)... They're tricky too. It appears helmets are much easier to fake than daggers.. I'm acquiring a pretty good helmet reference library, thanks to Darryl, Cody and others.. Just got "SS Steel" and "History of the German Steel Helmet" today. I have also acquired several other highly recommended helmet references. I hope to find an authentic SS helmet one day... These are clearly a case where big money alone won't do...

All the best....

I noticed the split rivits on the first helmet look like they were installed after the shell was painted. It doesn't look like they were painted at all. In the field, they would have slopped the white paint on the complete helmet, not giving a thought about anything other than the camouflage effect, or going to have a smoke.. I can see where "ALL" camos would be very tough to prove authentic ..... Dangerous area for collecting. I wouldn't pay much for any camo helmet....
