hello there
concerning an original BRIGADEFUHRER tunic I've found and thinking about purchase. this tunic is named, comes with original owner's ribbon bar and has silver cuffband on left sleeve. I think this is for headquarters or similar. excellent condition very well kept as it comes from family source. which could be its price?????

The price for a fake one is around $300 for an original named piece the price can go up high to $50k plus or minus. Pending on the name pending on just everything, and we all know from the 100% less then maybe 3% is might real. Sorry I already have my doubts regarding your post that this one is real, it's like playing Lottery. But anyhow good luck for you.

I AGREE WITH ROBERT'S ASSESMENT. IF YOU ARE NOT AN EXPERIENCED, SEASONED COLLECTOR, I WOULD MOVE VERY SLOWLY ON THIS PURCHASE. BY "SEASONED" I MEAN BURNT BY BAD PIECES MORE THAN ONCE. THESE DAYS, STORIES OF THESE KIND OF DISCOVERIES ARE NUMEROUS BUT FEW ARE FACTUAL.

Very few men were able to wear the silver cuff band. Himmler, Lammers etc. This level tunic usually won't come out of the woodwork this far out. The officer most likely died some time ago and this tunic will have been known. David

I do collect tunics for long time. Just want to know the price because it's first time to get the possibility to purchase one of these. never see W-SS general tunic for sale before and didn't know about price.

Actually, upon further examination, I would comment that the collar tabs don't look right to me..

just spend money on things that you know 110%

THE UNIFORM IN QUESTION HAS NO DETAILED IMAGES OF THE INSIGNIA. HOWEVER, ANYONE WHO HAS SEEN A GENUINE HAUPTAMT CUFFTITLE CAN TELL FROM THE CATALOGUE IMAGES THAT THE PIECE IS NOT GENUINE. I WILL NOT GO IN TO DETAIL AS THERE IS NO REASON TO HELP THE FAKERS WHO READ THESE FORUMS REGULARLY. I WOULD NOT WASTE MY MONEY ON THIS UNIFORM GROUPING. THOSE WHO WISH TO BELIEVE THE FAIRY TALE, BID LIKE CRAZY.

Interesting discussion. By the way, in looking at the Andreas Theis catalog I noticed there were big red dots partially covering many items for sale. It's too bad that images such as the swastika, Hitler's face (even his signature) SS skulls, etc. can't be shown in an auction catalog. How would you like to bid 7000 Euros on the SS totenkopf ring (item #1180) when the entire ring has a big red dot covering it?
Is this the law in Germany or just political correctness?

It is conforming to German law, if you are interested in items you can either obtain the catalogue (dot free and lavishly illustrated) or go and check out the items in person.

The officer in question died in 1959. The family didn't decide to just now sell after all these years. His tunic would have come out a long time ago. But Bob is hitting the nail on the head. That cuff title has NO EQUAL. The fakes don't even approach the real thing and most likely never will. That is the dead giveaway. David

PS, RKtrager, if you have never seen a general officer's tunic for sale before, then you most likely have never seen the arm band in question before. You should not take my word for this but you should seek out a real cuff band to see in person and then you will know the truth, what ever it is. However there are very few bands around on or off tunics to look at I suspect. There are some photos of this band in Beaver's book Uniforms of the Waffen-SS but they may not be close up enough. Don't buy the story about family. david

Just wondering... Will/Do auction houses check the history of a item. Lets say a person drops off a high dollar item like the uniform in question for sale and claims the uniform is from a family member. Will they (auction house) check to see if the claim is true. Or do they care really?

IMO most of them don't care. They are not museums,
if both the seller and the buyer thinks its real, who is to argue?

If an item is blatantly fake many will shun it, but there are many 'borderline' items that make it in.

First of all the trousers are a red flag with the lampssen... never did trust those. And even with those pictures I can tell the collar tabs are reproductions. They are that bad... hope everybody had the good sense to stay away from this. There are a lot of reproduction Waffen-SS general's tunics (and caps: there's one on this auction as well, not to mention that RFSS staff officer service cap with the light-gray piping -- what a joke!) and caps. The REAL things are REAL tough to come by.
