So its just not me thinking i'm losing it.. Big Grin

I was looking forward to the helmet collectors opinions on some of the tan/camo & ss decaled helmets.

I'm not an expert on them, but I had some doubts about a couple of them.. JMO

Is that why they were removed ??

Can anyone say what the topics or nature of these disappearing threads are? This sounds very strange and it would be interesting to know what the criteria are for the removal of people's contributions to the forum.
Could it be a technical issue?

Yes, right after I posted on the Russ N. collection thread, the thread disappeared. I verified that a couple of items are not original.
Best Wishes,
Bob

I thought I was going crazy or something also! Didn't Russ post a thread about a HJ dagger on EBAY, I've been going bananas trying to find the post which was about a Christian makermark dagger. JohnJ

You guys are right, it is gone. Our Admin search function is not real-time so it sometimes takes a while to show what happened. When I checked yesterday afternoon, there was no report.

I will call russ later.

I'm still not altogether clear whether the threads are being deleted or simple disappearing.

I have spoken with Russ. That helmet thread was indeed deleted, but by one of the younger members of his family. He offered me his apologies and promised that it will not happen again.

Stuff happens, but I consider this matter closed.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, guys !

Hmmm... people other than moderators are deleteing our threads and the matter is closed??? Not sure I agree with that assessment.

Darryl,

Russ has been getting help posting pictures from one of sons as he is not very computer literate. The son had posted the helmet pictures and took advantage of using Russ' Moderator status to kill that thread after JR posted some negative comment.

I have spoken to Russ and he has changed passwords so it will not happen again. He offered to quit over this, but I don't think that was justified.

I think Russ is a gentleman in every sense of the word and made a mistake by extending his authority as Moderator to his son, BUT when this happens..... Red Face

WHO shoulders the responsibility for killing JR's "Negative comment"? Confused

My question is "Negative to who?" Me, You, Russ, Russ's son, Who? Frown

That is clearly a CoC thing to me when someone other than a Moderator has the power to determine AND delete so-called "Negative comment" by a respected/contributing member of GDC.

The Mod in question should "pay the bill" on this one?

I have to add that I've seen more retribution in response for someone that did less, in the past.....

I'm NOT trying to force Russ to resign, but I think the train has jumped the tracks on the explanation you give and then your brushing it off so gingerly.... Frown

Maybe you're the person that needs to rectify this situation. Leadership isn't an easy road to take, most times....... Confused

OH Yea, and MY comments won't happen again either. My motto is: "Go ahead and do it and seek forgiveness later." Sorry.... Eek

2 different topics? Son? someone must have struck a nerve..
This is the type of thing that should never happen again... Dave/Vern, maybe change some settings so that no topic or post can be deleted,,only moved to Mod. or Violation area..

Hopefully junior has his own member status now. Russ has changed his password,,good..Start up the topic again...

Multi faceted problem here. Yes the posts were deleted but why exactly? I don't buy the excuse. It seems the tired old german helmet problem that plagues many boards...someones posts their helmets to get an ole ata a boy/let me show you what I have but instead receives numerous negitive responses questioning the authenticity of many of the helmets.

It does seem to be a rather weak excuse.....

I think Gaspare's suggestion is spot on, have a moderators trash bin so that any thread/post can be retrieved if required.

Cheers
Don
