There's a famous Artists Street where you can buy arts and crafts. I met the man that painted these.. He did a couple years for counterfeiting religious Icons. His work is excellent. Once aged and put into an authentic frame there's very few that could distinguish between good and bad!.
Now he does larger pieces and sells them just as his current artwork. This Madonna & Jesus was about $300. *The photo does NOT do this piece justice,,it is really beautiful work..

Most military was not original. Most being excellently made re enactor pieces that after being worn for 5 years looks the part of originals. Every type of antique is there. In the early to mid 1990s 2/3 of the show was pure military,,now sadly only about 10% military..

Great Pics G: Looks like you had another good trip assuming you stayed away from the green foliage shown in one of the pics. I just returned from New England myself but I didn't see anything near as interesting as that show you attended. Were you able to get anything legit? Jim

I got to meet 2 forum members there!! Evgeniy from Moscow and Viktor7 from Ukraine. Both traveled long distances.. Both very serious, knowledgeable and dedicated collectors. It was my extreme honor and pleasure meeting them and hanging out.. We got to talk a little and did a few rounds at the show, and sadly our time was up.. I will have a bigger place to stay next year so hopefully we'll get a little drinking done to celebrate our purchases! Next year my friends! *Small portion of my loot! I'll get better shots of the rings in a few days....... *

Jim, for me to pull a few good rings that I actually needed out of a trip is great,,its not like it used to be and its slim pickens.. I also collect Ukrainian Insurgent Army pieces [OUN & UPA]. These items are very very hard to get in the states and I did pretty good in that area too.. It was a family trip, I wasn't in my smugglers mode , there's big penalties if you get caught taking anything out of Ukraine thats made after 1950,, this is just a little iceing on the aleady enjoyable trip...,G.

Gaspare ......Thanks for sharing your Trip Photos & experiences!!!
Very Special indeed!!
Your Ukranian finds are exciting.
Too bad about the Cash Crop - the Weed, it seems, grows everywhere. Makes very nice & strong Ropes .... but seems the "Ropes get Smoked."
Wagner, looks like you have some pretty neat items there also.

I collect OUN [Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists] and UPA [Ukrainian Liberation Army] items along with other foreign voluteer/collaborator items, concentration Camp/Holocaust items,, and of course rings!... I for one usually aren't fond of campaign made, field made, or even custom jeweler made rings BUT,,,
This ring was a little expensive but falls in 2 or my areas or collecting,,rings and Ukrainian.. I happened to come across this ring while walking with Evgeniy at the Kiev antique show.. Since I got there late [ 7 a.m.] and the show was already picked pretty much clean we were just strolling around talking and looking around when I saw the ring.. It immediately struck me as an original piece. The price wasn't exactly cheap but I just had to have it..
A silver ring with no hallmarks / maker marks of any kind.. A gold plate to the front cartouche with a 'Trizub'.. A little hand embellishing to the side.

A really interesting ring Gaspare! It will fit good in any collection, specially yours because your roots. The surname language is not familiar, I cant read it. Dated ; 11 sept 41 makes the ring already attractive. Everyone can read the initials J.B. When I look at the third picture, rightside, there is a soldering . Or there is a bit silver band missing from a third initial, or the band is repaired with too much space that divides the first letter (capital T) of the surname in two. A difficult one, but nice.

Gaspare,
Nice find and nice ring. What would cause so many stress fractures, besides stress of wear and tear? Welcome back and thanks for sharing your trip and finds with us all.

Benten, You make some valid points with your observations. And, it ties in with Mikees question...
Condition could be a combo of a few things. 1st.The ring not being content marked could be a low content and quality silver, maybe causing disintegration/stress cracks in band... 2nd, after buying the ring I returned later to the seller and he mentioned the ring was literally about to be scrapped,,which sometimes involves crushing the ring before the melt. *OR,,even another probable scenario to go along with the low content/bad quality silver,,sometimes these sellers don't tell the truth! The ring could have been ground dug. I've seen many a piece from the ground and this reminds me of stress, compression, abrasion cracks from being in the ground a long time.. Its not popular anymore to sell dug items and this seller maybe didn't want to lose a sale!
Even another possiblity,,low content poor quality silver,,,ring not resized correctly and when made smaller the band developed stress crack along the band..., G.
