RON- A NICE LOOKING UNIFORM. FROM YOUR IMAGES, THE COLLAR TABS APPEAR TO BE THOSE OF A STANDARTENFUHRER, NOT A BRIGADEFUHRER. CAN YOU SHOW CLOSE UPS OF THE TABS AND THE AWARD LOOPS? BOB

Bob, the tunic is dated Aug. 38 and I think he made Br. Fu. during the war. Sorry, no pics of the loops as my photo girl is on vacation now. Ron Weinand

Here is a period photo of Linsmayer. He is the second one from the right, probably even wearing this tunic.

RON- DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE LOOPS. IT IS INTERESTING THAT HE NEVER UPDATED HIS TUNIC INSIGNIA. POSSIBLY, HE PROSPERED AND NO LONGER FIT IN TO IT. I HAVE A SET OF UNIFORMS THAT BELONGED TO A STURMBANNFUHRER ATTACHED TO THE OSAF. THE MAN LATER BECAME AN OBERSTURMBANNFUHRER AND WAS TRANSFERED TO BAYERN-OSTMARK. EVIDENTLY, HE JUST BOUGHT NEW UNIFORMS AND PUT THE ONES I HAVE IN STORAGE.

Linsmayer died early in war 39 or 1940.

RON- I WOULD SAY THE PICTURE IS LIKELY CIRCA 1935/36. NOTE THAT BOTH THE SA AND SS MEN ARE ALL STILL WEARING THE M1929 MODEL NATIONAL EMBLEM ON THEIR VISOR CAPS AND KEPIS.

The man in the picture is not Max Linsmayer, and he don't wore the same uniform. Max Linsmayer was promoted to Oberführer in 1933, and for that reason never would have worn the tresse arround the cuffs, but the 'Alte Kampfer Winkel'. Even the buttons seems to silver instead of goldon for Niedersachsen.
It seems to be a war tunic, but dangerous.

The photo ID is from Axishistory.com and is dated 1935. So, I can only tell you what they state and the rank in the photo appears to be a Standartenfu and I don't know when he was promoted to Br. Fu., as listed in "5000 Kopfe".

THE SIMPLE ANSWER WOULD BE THAT THIS TUNIC BELONGED TO ANOTHER MAN, POSSIBLY A RELATIVE.

The fact they think it's Linsmayer is that the Gauleiter of Danzig, Albert Förster is in the same picture too. Linsmayer was Führer of Brigade 5 'Danzig'.
The man on the picture I think is Brigadeführer Heinrich Hacker.
I never found another Linsmayer in such a high rank, but of course it would be possible like Bob said. To be honost I think it's questionable.

If I could see what awards Linsmayer won and could match them to the loops on the tunic, it would answer a lot of the questions. Also, the piping around the collar tabs is a golden yellow. Does this match Linsmayer or Danzig 5? Ron Weinand

Max Linsmayer was born in 1 Januari 1907, and killed in auction in France 14 May 1940.

RON- THE COLLAR TABS APPEAR TO HAVE A DARK BROWN BACKING. THAT COMBINED WITH THE GOLD TAB PIPING WOULD INDICATE A STANDARTENFUHRER FROM GRUPPE NIEDERSACHSEN. THE COLLAR INSIGNIA IS ALSO THE POST 1939 PATTERN. THEREFORE, THE TUNIC WOULD HAVE TWO SHOULDERBOARDS, NOT ONE. IF THIS CAME OUT OF AN OLD COLLECTION, POSSIBLY THE TUNIC WAS ORIGINALLY STRIPPED OF INSIGNIA AND THEN LATER REBUILT INCORRECTLY. AS LAURENS PLACES THIS MAN IN NIEDERSACHSEN, THE COLLAR INSIGNIA WOULD BE CORRECT. HOWEVER, NOTE THE CUFF LONG SERVICE STRIPES ON THE BROWN SHIRT IN THE PHOTO DOES NOT MATCH THAT ON THE TUNIC. HE ALSO ATTAINED THE RANK OF GRUPPENFUHRER, WHICH WOULD MAKE THESE RANK TABS INCORRECT BY THE TIME THE 1939/40 INSIGNIA WAS IN PLACE. I BELIEVE THIS TUNIC BELONGED TO ANOTHER MAN OF THE SAME NAME.

I was thinking about the last reply and the label inside the tunic.
It could be Linsmayer's tunic, wich was stripped and build up again. Remember that Linsmayer was appointed in 1938 as Führer der Gruppe Niedersachsen. Hannover was the Dienstsitz of Gruppe Ns.
The stripped tunic can be the real deal!

I think Bob has it right. The tailor's tag is from Hannover and the collar tabs are just tacked down on the corners. Probably Linsmayer's tunic from the 38 Aug and incorrectly added collar tabs. I can be seen where the shoulder boards are removed from both shoulders. BTW, the tabs are very nice and have the light blue RZM tag on the reverse that can bee seen when you lift the tab in the center. Laurens, great work, but do you have his rank promotions also? 1.1.31 Standartenführer 1.1.33 Oberführer 1.2.34 Brigadeführer 9.11.38 Gruppenführer
One problem left is the arm-tresse wich is incorrect. But could be re-attached together with the collar tabs.
