I'm looking at buying my first GD + need help. There are no makers mark on blade or chain, the handle has a hole through it where the wire starts + the chain has solid rectangular links + the ones I've seen here only have round links.

One picture will give you the answer. There were no 1st model Luftwaffe daggers with square links though. Are there any designs on the square links or are they just open squares?

dts396- First of all WELCOME to the forum!
I would HIGHLY recommend that you post pics. of the item that you are asking about. It is VERY difficult to be at all helpful to you without any pics. They are worth a thousand words afterall! Big Grin
Now assuming we are talking about a 1st model luft dagger, I am most concerned about the chin links which should be circular. But perhaps the chain has been replaced. I think it is very rare to find a 1st luft with an unmarked blade, and the hole in the grip for the grip wire is a bad sign in my opinion as well...
I think you shoud PASS on that one, but to be 100% sure as to what you've got, PLEASE post pics.
Good hunting,
Johnny

As everyone has stated there is no way to know without pics. Even from the description it COULD be one of those rare JUST post war "Field Day" daggers made from 1st luft. parts... who knows.
